We toured Discovery Commons Brookfield. I viewed a one-bedroom apartment. It was very nice. It's a beautiful facility. It's quite glamorous. It's larger. I thought it looked nice. They take care of their employees very well. I was told that they're really into making their employees happy, which will make the residents happy. They offer a lot of care for assisted living. My first impression is that the people aren't quite as sick as they are at the other facility. They rejected my aunt at the last minute. They did an assessment, which was rushed. Maybe they don't feel capable for people who need a lot of care and daily attention. My aunt is still somewhat bedbound. It hasn't been that long since she had her surgery. She needs a lot of physical therapy. She's 100 years old. You can't expect her to be in the condition of a 70-year-old, I guess, which is what I'm getting at. The staff that I met, the director and her assistant, were good. It's very clean and organized. They had a library. It's two-story, and the hallways are so long. I mean, I kept picturing my aunts navigating those halls.

My aunt stayed at Discovery Commons Brookfield, which was very nice but pricey. The people who worked there were wonderful. The facility was new and clean. It was state of the art, but parking was also a problem there. The rooms were smaller than the ones I looked at for my mom, but they were very nice. They did have very nice walk-in showers with a seat hanging from the wall, which was very nice so my aunt could be independent in showering herself. I ate lunch with my aunt, and the food was very good.

It was wonderful. Though the apartment that I would want for my mom, she can't go in because she doesn't have a dementia diagnosis. None of the other apartments were appropriate, but it's a wonderful, beautiful, stunning place. I loved it, but it was just not right for my mom. The facility is fantastic and beautiful. The apartments were nice. There's no furniture or anything, so you have to furnish everything yourself. A lot of the places have at least the bed and dressers, and they have nothing in there. The person who gave me the tour was phenomenal. He was wonderful, I can't say enough, he's newer, and he just did a wonderful job. They have activities, and they try to engage the people. The only issue that I had was, it wasn't right for my mother because she doesn't have the right diagnosis to stay on the dementia side. Then on the other side, you have to walk. It was a distance for me to walk to get to the dining room, so you'd have to be pretty darn independent or in an automatic wheelchair. It's just too far for her to walk, and she's not going to go in a wheelchair for the dining room. Their menu looked wonderful; I was drooling when I was there.
