"Harmony at Chantilly offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care. It's a continuum of care. It's nice and fairly new. They have activities, Preventing Falls, rosary, a Polish Fest happy hour, and community events. They have carpet. They have a beauty salon, an activities director, and exercise classes. They have a fire pit, a fitness center, and game rooms. For independent living, it's just one meal. There's parking for a fee. They have a security system that people wear around their necks. This was two days before Thanksgiving, so there was a lot of stuff happening with people. You'd meet residents in different parts of the facility, either in the library or talking in a group. There were art groups and reading groups. They have outdoor areas. They have a full kitchen. The units have a patio or balcony, walk-in closet, walk-in shower, and washer and dryer. It's really like a fully equipped apartment. Everyone I met was nice."

"I toured Hunters Woods at Trails Edge. That was decent. I would have considered that. I liked the person that I spoke to. The place was very nice. I would move in there. I could see myself moving in there because it's up in Reston and I like Reston Town Center. They showed me nice built apartments. The apartments were lovely. They showed me the library. They have a walking trail that looks very nice. I like the library, and they showed me the painting room. I like that too."

"I’ve been touring assisted living communities in Florida and now in Northern Virginia for the past six months to place first my parents and now my mother-in-law in just the right community. Not all assisted living communities are the same, and what I’ve learned is to watch the interactions of the staff (including the person giving you a tour) with the residents. I’ve now toured eight communities in the Vienna, McLean, and Reston/Herndon area, and the Residence at Colvin Run stands out among them all! Most all the communities I’ve toured were warm and welcoming, but it was The Residence at Colvin Run where the salesperson, receptionist, caregivers, and dining room staff I saw greeted everyone by name and had at least a short smiling conversation with each. It’s that sort of warmth and caring you can’t fake and that is vitally important to ensuring you or your parent/family member will be happy in their new home. "Georges Assisted Living is an absolutely beautiful community. What stood out to me was that the place was very open and inviting. The residents were engaged, talking to each other, and sitting in the living rooms. I met the owner. It was after 10:00 when I was there and she was extremely pleasant and talked to me about the residents. The rooms were beautiful. The nurses were extremely pleasant, including the people preparing the food (they were very friendly). It was the best place I have seen and I'm very impressed with it."

"My mother moved into Asheir Homes. It's a very small residential facility. There are only eight patients. It's very nice, but the trouble is, during the pandemic, visiting is extremely limited. Today, they just sent us a note saying they may not be taking any visitors if you don't live in Maryland, and I live in DC. I won't be able to visit anymore and I'm very upset about that. My mother's move was a very difficult process. It's difficult to move somebody who is 97 years old. She did not want to move and she didn't understand why she had to move; it was a very difficult process. The staff is fine. We like the staff. They text fairly often. My mother has a private room. She has physical therapy there, and they sent me some videos of them playing different games. They have all kinds of things going on. There's a very big yard and a patio. My mother is in a wheelchair, so she doesn't get out very much. The meals are good, but she is just so upset at having to leave. The facility is absolutely great. It's really expensive."

"I really liked Tribute at Black Hill, and I was hoping it would be the one that we would pick. I saw an apartment, and it was very nice. I really liked the woman who assisted me with the tour, and I just really enjoyed seeing the building. It was beautiful. They had a salon, an art studio, and walking paths around the building. They had a place where you could get coffeeand sit and chat. There were places that you could go just to have your lunch downstairs if you don't want to go to the dining room. There's a menu that's different every day, but there's also a standard menu. They would monitor medication and they would provide transportation."

The grounds are so peaceful, with a koi pond and walking paths that make every day feel refreshing, and the meals taste like dining out at a nice restaurant. I love spending time with friends at happy hour, catching a movie with fresh popcorn, or simply relaxing on the terrace in the sunshine. The staff are always kind and attentive—I feel cared for but still independent. It really is the perfect mix of comfort, community, and fun!!"

"After a lengthy search, we found the perfect home for Mom that checked all the boxes: Safe, clean, attentive staff, home-cooked meals, happy residents and conveniently located near family. The home has good natural light and the sun in Mom’s room makes it cheerful. The owner is an experienced registered nurse who understands the needs of the resident. She effectively communicates with Mom, family members and caregivers to provide Mom with an individualized care management plan to ensure she stays healthy, safe, and happy. Her good judgement and communication have relieved our family of worrying about Mom’s care and have enabled us to spend quality time when we visit. Mom loves the caring and attentive staff who make her feel loved and special. They go above and beyond to help her and make her happy. Mom always looks forward to the meals. "Advent Care is like a house in a neighborhood. It's a nice idea, but it wasn't quite what my aunt needed in terms of the bathroom being accessible. I think it would have been difficult for her to get around the house in a wheelchair. The lady was very helpful. Even when she knew that we weren't going to be able to do private pay, she shared resources with us on how to get financial help to try to get her into a comfortable situation. She even followed up with me later and sent me websites and stuff. It has two rooms, one has two beds, and the other only has one bed. She said her family lives there at the house, and there was a dog, which I know my aunt wouldn't like. She said that when her husband and her child are home, they help. She prepares meals, which is nice. My mom went with me, and she is in her 60s. She does have knee problems, and she had a hard time getting around. There wasn't a railing on the front step. There wasn't a ramp. She had to use the bathroom, and she had a hard time getting up off the toilet because there weren't the handicap bars where they needed to be. I wasn't comfortable with it. It is not well-equipped for someone who can't walk on their own. If they can get up and walk around, it is a nice little house, and meals are made from scratch. They had chairs and stuff outside, but it was a question of how to get them out there. There's no ramp. The lady said that they encourage them to be out and about, and they have TVs in the family room. She was very helpful, even knowing that we weren't going to be able to give them our business. She still continued to offer support, health websites, things like that to help us find a place and offered to even take my aunt temporarily for a lower price if we couldn't find a place for her to live, like if we couldn't get the Medicaid thing settled. She was a very, very nice lady. It was more physical equipment-wise that was questionable. The food looked good, like homemade fresh vegetables, chicken, that kind of thing."

"The Trillium Tysons is brand new. It just opened in August. So, it's only about a third occupied. The person who took us around and was responsible for us was fantastic. She did an extraordinarily good job answering all of our questions and being very patient. Because it's only about a third occupied, we were able to see a number of the apartments that we were interested in (that's both a positive and a negative). We didn't interact a lot with any of the residents, although whoever we did, seemed to be very pleasant. The staff that was there was extremely helpful, and courteous, and even solicited what we were interested in, where, and why. The price was quite high. It's a monthly rental, but they said that that's what they were focusing on. They wanted to be at the high end. It being brand new, there wasn't too much to find fault with, and it's one of those that we would probably go back in another couple of years to see if we're interested, and to see how it established itself. We looked at both one and two-bedroom apartments. The two-bedroom apartments were the ones that we were focusing on. We thought that they were well constructed and most of them were comfortably laid out. There was one that we didn't like, but we saw three two-bedroom apartments and two of them were satisfactory. We saw a large one-bedroom apartment that certainly if we were only one person, would be more than adequate."
