My brother-in-law is already in Thompson House. The staff that I met all seemed very well qualified, very kind, and very nice. It’s certainly clean. My brother-in-law is doing far better since he’s been there, so he seems to be well cared for. He’s obviously getting better nutrition, and better meds management than he had at home. So, he’s looking better and sounding clearer. He does have some dementia so he can be bad. He clearly sounds more lucid, and clearer since he’s been there; so I think he’s being well cared for. It looks more institutional. It does not look like a home at all. On the other hand, everybody seems kind, responsive, well-qualified, and the care is very good. So far, I’m very happy with it.

I went to Thompson House and saw the first floor briefly, which was their nursing home care. That's where they also hold all activities for both nursing home and assisted living residents. Then I was taken up to the second floor (the actual assisted living area) and saw the resident's room and their dining room. The rooms were nice but they were only single rooms. All of them had a sink and a toilet, and some had showers, some didn't (for those who don't have had to use the community shower in the hallway). It wasn't a fancy place (as it used to be a nursing school). When we were touring around, I never saw one resident out of their room, too, and I noticed that nobody was under the age of 90. I actually had to call them for directions, because my GPS wasn't working, but then they got called into a meeting and were 45 minutes late. There were a few questions they couldn't answer, but they said they would get me the answers. They were supposed to email me more information and I never got that email, so I was not super impressed with the communication.
