My husband is in Arbor Hills Memory Care Community. The move-in was very organized, worked just like they said it would. They introduced themselves when he first got there. They got him set up. It was very hands-on at the very beginning, so he never felt lost. The doctor was set up immediately and had an appointment with him, as well as the nurse. Even before he got there, we had the medications ready to go. I was so impressed compared to some of the other places we had looked at or had been to with the immediate attention. They got him comfortable there right away. They had a person who they felt could be a good friend with him, and they got them started with each other. He was a very difficult patient at the other places. He still had his ups and downs, but way less, and they were on top of it before it ever escalated to severe agitation. They kept him busy with things that we had told them in advance that he would like to do. They set him up with a maintenance man to have jobs that he could do if he wanted to do them, and it kept him busy, like polishing the old car that they have out in the courtyard. He loved it. He felt like he was accomplishing something. They had me bring in little folders that had pictures with explanations of the pictures and those times in his life, and whenever he would be having a bad day, they could pull that folder out and sit and talk with him about it, so his sundowner's agitation could not escalate. They under-promised and over-delivered big time. He has a private room. They have several common areas, a couple of different places where you can go to watch football or whatever, or just with your family, and a couple of different large lunchroom settings. The courtyard in the middle is large, and you can sit out on the shaded porch, and they're going to have gardening for those who want to. One of the things we really liked about this place was that there were more men who could actually be in a men's club, and activities that men would like. They have really taken the time out each week to sit and just talk to him on a routine. They've already got him on in the afternoon if he would like a Dr. Pepper or a Coke because he likes both, and he's very happy to have it. They plan ahead. I think there's very little that happens there that they're not ready for. This place is very clean. They have plenty of staff. They're really friendly, even when my husband, at the very beginning, was calling me and fussing about something, I would say, "They're very nice there" and he would agree every time. They are very nice, and it made me feel better that that's how he really felt. He's never complained about the food, so it must be good. We saw 14 places, and we saw places that looked as good as this and a couple that looked better, but they didn't function well, and this one functions very well. They can have eyes on, yet it's big enough for everybody to move around. It's worth it.

Living Well
Our Personal Touch Care Program is a holistic approach aimed at maintaining residents' well? being and self-worth. It is a program that encompasses all aspects of our resident care.
While many think of "Activities" as pre-planned group events, such as exercise, crafts and music events where almost everyone participates, we think of "Activity" as everything the resident does throughout the day, whether planned or spontaneous. This includes our residents personal care, conversations with others and even time alone.
We spend a great deal of time assisting residents with personal care and the daily routines can become more meaningful when we are making sure we are using sensitivity and creativity to create the special Personal Care Moment.

Arbor Hills Memory Care Community was an excellent place, and they offered us an excellent deal. Everything was good, but we had a deadline of one month to do it, and we didn't. It's extremely well appointed, very nice, and very clean. They take precautions for Covid right at the door. They give you a good tour of the place. The staff was very personable. I really liked her. I'm going to try to (if we go back there) deal with her going forward. They have different activities. They have a bus that takes you places, but that's not for my dad. The one thing that they have that my daughter and I liked is they have a couple of different rooms where the residents might meet up, sit around, and visit. One or two of the rooms, the family can reserve and celebrate their loved one's birthday or a holiday. I think it's two hours at a time. The room is free, and they'll prepare it. You can buy the food from them for the meal that you're going to be serving or you can bring in your own. They don't charge you if you need the room or with the help that they give you in serving. It seemed nicer than any place else.

Arbor Hills Memory Care was not that good. I met the sales director. I was not impressed with the building and the inside of it. The rooms were fairly big but sort of dull. It was not bright or sunny, so that did not give me a good impression.

Arbor Hills is 100% memory care, and the staff is tuned in and completely understand how to care for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia. It was a family owned business, and I have really good relationships with people that run the place. My mom has a nice, clean room with her own bathroom and plenty of room for storage and furniture. The food looks really nice and is served in regular plates. They have activities all day long like ball toss and Bingo, and they had an outing the other day.
