My friends lived at The Commons, and they started where they took care of themselves and then advanced to where they were cared for. The apartments were very nice. One of my friends, the apartment she lived in, was very nice. She had a one-bedroom apartment. She can fix her meal or go to the dining room and eat. She had a washing machine, a dryer, a walk-in closet, and a very nice walk-in shower. She had enough room for a queen-sized bed. She had a recliner, a small table, and a lamp table. It was very comfortable. She also had a TV and a nice little table in her kitchen. The dining area, where she went out with other people to be together and do group things, was very nice. The staff was very nice, and I liked them a lot.

I've been out there several times. I saw the apartments. The nursing home and the cottages out there. They also had an Alzheimer's unit and assisted living. The staff was great. They had everything. They had the exercise room and activities in their great room. It's a great place to live.

My mom stayed at The Commons, and they did an excellent job. We had weekly meetings to update on my mom's progress and physical therapy. She seemed to be very happy there and they gave her an excellent level of care. Mom always commented on a staff being very kind and went out of their way to do things for her, so she was always telling me how good there were and that's great. Their food was also excellent.

Facilities and amenities appeared to be above average. There seemed to be a large range in the standards and practices for many wings. I observed neglect in multiple cases. Exercises and physical therapies were great. My loved one was treated well there for the most part. They may have been understaffed. Food options were good. They had good visiting areas for guests. My Grandma was there for a good period of time and she spent time in an apartment style living area. This really is the ideal set up for any assisted living arrangement. My Grandma was very old and very frail but probably like most strong willed people of that age she wanted independence. Our elders want as much freedom and control as they can afford given their circumstances. They know they have to take it real easy but too often the retirement/nursing home fails to meet the needs of the individual given the specific situation. The problem is the circumstances are always changing given their health and we find our loved ones being repeatedly bombarded with stress by change of environment. New rules and procedures are hard to adapt to. Its really easy for mistakes to be made during these quick transitions and all the little minor neglects add up to big problems. These stresses accelerate the deterioration of health instead of slowing it. I was lucky in a way because in my case my Grandma may have benefited from this home for a short period of time. But at some point we are pretty certain they made mistakes. Like many others in our situation there is really nothing we could do. This leaves me unsure whether or not to recommend this home.
