There isn’t enough words for me to describe how much this place means to me. From management to the amazing nursing staff are always there for you when your love one is in their care, any questions you have they will answer them right away put your mind at ease. I never had to worry about my mom (who was in hospice) and my dad (who had triple bypass surgery) because I knew they were being taken care of so I could focus on them. I want to give a huge shoutout to Mary Ann that is head of admissions who was always there for me and helped me every way she could. I am very grateful for her. The food was always good and with a home comfort touch. Thank you kitchen for all your hospitality . Thank you housekeeping for all the hard work you put in to make these rooms clean and comfortable for our love ones. Thank you Laurels of Defiance for all the love you put in this beautiful facility.

I would like to make a statement regarding the care that my mother has received at the Laurels nursing home of Defiance. Firstly, my mothers care plan was largely dependent on the results of a Urinary Analysis which was ordered. I asked numerous people how to get this UA completed and everyone would put the task off to someone else, never getting it done. Finally, she was cathed and a sample was collected. The Laurels assured me it had been sent to the lab at Mercy, later to find out that no one ever sent it. It had been sitting out on the counter for too long and my mother had to produce another sample. Additionally, my mother was left sitting on the toilet unattended She would have fallen immediately if she had tried to stand on her own. Their visitation policy has also been a complete disaster for my family and I. I was told by a higher up that my mother classifies as “compassionate visitation” meaning numerous visitors allowed at once. We did this for several days until today, a different staff member was working. She kept my daughter completely locked within the double doors, not even allowing her to step foot into the building until I had exited. Even after explaining to her that the visits are considered “compassionate” she did the same thing to my other daughter, having her stand and wait between the double doors for a long time. When I came to switch places with my daughter, the staff member had sat down in a meeting and was ignoring the door buzzer. I had to knock on the door of the meeting room just to be let out. This staff member (Nancy) was prohibiting two fully vaccinated family members from visiting my fully vaccinated mother in possibly her final moments when I was already told by several others that we were allowed. There is a huge lack of communication within the management there which greatly hinders the care of the patients. This will forever be part for my daughters last memories of there grandmother. I wanted to make this post so that other families can avoid the Laurels at all costs so that this will not happen to you and your love. 95 0/0 of the staff dose an excellent job however a few bad employees can make a major impact on the quality of the last days of our love ones.

Overall I think this is one of the best homes in Defiance. With the exception of a few, the care providers are very friendly and patient. They keep the facility clean and there's rarely an odor. The food seems pretty good. Only problem I have is that several things have disappeared from my mother's room, even though I put her name and/or initials on everything.

My grandma was recently in The Laurels of Defiance. She was in the facility for about a month, and the care she received was great from what I saw. The nurses and everyone were great with my grandma, along with all the other patients. I was there quite a bit in that month's time, and I never saw anything negative, which I can remember anyway. The food was also pretty good. I ate a few meals with my grandma, and each time I was pleased. I cannot give the people that work at Laurels enough credit for how hard they work. Just to see them help one person with problems they are having made me see all of the effort they put into caring for each patient. They also allowed some of my family to stay a couple of nights with my grandma, which meant the world to her. After a couple of times, they asked that the family discontinue staying so much so that they could take care of her. To me, that was great because they easily could allow the family to stay and help rather than doing the work themselves.
