This facility is not a good choice if your loved one has Alzheimers. As the disease progresses they will ask you to leave or evict you when behaviors change. They say they are memory care on their website, but in our meetings they told us they are not.

I like Otterbein Springboro Nursing Home a lot. My mom is in rehab there and it was a good experience. I like the small house concept, that it was more of a home type place instead of a luxury hotel. I liked the style with the small home atmosphere where the residents came right out of their rooms and they could be right there in the living room or kitchen. They ate together, so it was a more family-style atmosphere and I liked that. The food is very good, she gained weight there so I'm thinking that's a plus. They were doing physical activity or rehab and things like that. There are no salons on-premises, it was one house so there's no gym that I'm aware of, but they have a courtyard. The other things were pretty much contained in the house.

Why don't more hospitals refer patients to this amazing place for their rehab? My stay here was outstanding! I realize most hospitals now have their own IPR units or facilities they're contracted with. I've heard of preferred providers too, but they're missing the point! I viewed my stay at Otterbein Springboro's rehab as a sort of extension of my hospital stay. It was easy to believe the hospital social worker really cared about what I needed when I was sent to Otterbein Springboro. This place is amazing! It's nothing like a traditional nursing home! It's set up like a house. I cooked for myself as I regained my strength and the aides helped me when I couldn't. A young man named Kyle came to see me while I was still in the hospital. He was the first face of Otterbein for me, and let me just tell the ladies, he's an awful nice face to see ;). He was so sweet and kind! He told me all about what Otterbein Springboro could offer me and for the first time I felt good about going anywhere other than home. What a find that young man is for Otterbein! I have visited friends in other rehab facilities (we're all at that age where we're breaking hips) and Otterbein Springboro absolutley cannot be beat!

This facility is set up very differently than most. It has 5 homes with 10 rooms for residents. There are two aids and nurses for each home. All the cooking, cleaning, laundry is done in each home. The residents are not on a strict schedule and sit in a main room looking drugged up. They may make their own meals, get carryouts, work in the garden or do what they want. We will be moving my sister there in the near future.

My mother resides at Avalon in Clearcreek. I can't say enough good things about the place. The concept is a little different for nursing homes. It's like a group home for elders. There are five homes in the complex with 10 elders and two nursing assistants per house. They have their meals cooked to order, meals are served family style around the table. All the rooms are private with private baths. They have specialists who rotate into the house (like beauticians, op/pt,etc). I want to live in this place when I'm an elder! They are fantastic!
