Dad is there and considering that everybody's understaffed, they do a very good job. They do the utmost best that they can. It's been a very good overall experience. The meals they serve are good. It's kind of a limited menu, but they do what they can. They have quite a bit of things to do that I was surprised about. From having others come in for music events, doing arts and crafts, and playing bingo, cards, and other games. They have a calendar of different activities."

"My husband is in Tremont nursing home. They're helping him, they're nice to him, and the care is good. They do whatever has to be done. The place is clean. Whenever something happened, they call me. They serve the meals, and they take him anywhere if he needs anything. They have a doctor there too. The caregivers are all nice to him. "

"I went to visit somebody at Berks Heim. The staff there is reputed to be the best in the county. They've been there a long time and they don't get a lot of turnovers; so the staff is outstanding. The place is very institutional. The grounds are very pretty, but it looks institutional and looks like a hospital. The rooms are like hospital rooms. They have a TV for people, they have arts and crafts, and they have the same thing that most places have."

"My mom had her physical therapy as Mt. Carmel Nursing Rehab Center. They also had the medical part to make sure that she was okay from the stroke the she had in her spine. The people there were very professional. They were very helpful and respectful. They had her on a schedule and they made sure that she had her therapy. They also took care of her diabetes and coumadin and everything else she needed medically. They provided activities for the patients. They even had her do some chopping and stuff to help make soup. The room that she was in was very clean and neat. I had nothing negative to say about them. "

"My mom lived in Kutztown Manor for three years after a stroke until her death. While no facility can replace the comforts of home, we are grateful for the wonderful care they provided to her for the entire time. Much of the same staff was there from beginning to end, and that provided continuity. We were kept informed of all medical issues, were given great advice, and were part of all decisions. They provided therapy when it made sense, assistance when she couldn't care for herself, and comfort when that's all that was possible. We have nothing but gratitude for the dignity with which they treated our mother. "

"ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation-Laureldale were great. They were good with my mom because she thought about going back. She seemed to enjoy her meals. The only thing we didn't like was acute care, they just had one potty for four people. Other than that, the girls were good at making sure she had her pills. She especially likes her speech therapist and she keeps saying she had the best therapy there. They were also good at keeping their residents busy. They had manicures, pet therapy, bingo, ice cream social, and entertainment shows."

"My dad was at Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing. I think they're more proactive with the rehab, and they tailor their program to the individual. The room was spacious and nice. He had a chair that he could sit on instead of laying on the bed. He has a full bathroom. The staff was very nice and very attentive."

"Saint Luke's is very clean and well maintained for a nursing home. To my experience the nurses are very professional and mostly very organized as a whole unit. My aunt fell twice at other homes and was moved from Mountain City (also in Hazleton, PA) and the former state nursing home in Weatherley, PA. She never fell again at St. Luke's and even regained talkative moments, smiles and her old usual zany sense of humor. Surprisingly the activities really do bring the whole room of residents together and that is a rarity worth mentioning. My aunt has grown very quiet with fading health, but the campy fun sometimes does liven her up for little burst of energy. Perhaps an eye roll! I don't think that would have been possible without protective watch. My mother and her family frequently make visits and any problems were always met with humble calm cooperation. Nursing homes in general are really the type of place where the environment can gain a negative reputation. Smells, sights, and the overall uncomfortable feel of a hospital are common. Anything a staff can do that changes that reputation in my mind is worth much more praise than 150 words. "

"I had a fairly short visit at Stoneridge Retirement, and it was expensive. We did see the smallest apartment they have, and it was OK, but not quite enough kitchen for my mother even though she would be having lunch for meals in the dining facility. "
