Nursing Home Communities in Urbana, IL

"I volunteered at this nursing home for a year, and got to know both the staff and residents fairly well. I was impressed with the genuine affection and care shown by the staff to the residents. Many of the nurses would come in to check on the residents just to chat with them. I was in a particular man's room visiting when a nurse came in and explained to me his hearing impairment and how to counteract it. They also joke around with and treat the residents like friends.During the holidays, the staff takes the time to decorate the nursing home, both indoors and out to make the residents feel more at home an cheerful. They have mass multiple times a week, as well as many activities for the residents to take part in such as knitting and bingo. I asked the residents what they thought of the food served in the cafeteria, an a resounding majority said they loved it! The staff takes cautious care to ensure that all residents are getting meals specific to their dietary restrictions.The nursing home was also fairly clean, although some of the hallways had a pungent smell that I would not enjoy to live near. the building was also very organized, as they separated the nursing home into different sections based on type and severity of injuries an disabilities. Overall, I think the Champaign County Nursing Home is a great facility for the elder. First and foremost, they care about their residents and make every effort to ensure that they are comfortable and content. "

"Out of the facility I checked out so far: Clark Lindsey has been the most upbeat and pleasant.Everyone I met, residents and staff alike seem pretty happy and content. The grounds outside were bright, cheery and well maintained and much larger than I had expected.They have very nice apartments, very clean and spacious. The dining area was really nice and not at all what I expected. I was expecting regular looking hospital food but it actually looked very appetizing.I do not believe I came across one staff member that did not at least smile at me in passing. The hair stylist stands out to me the most. She was speaking to one of the elderly residents and it seemed as though the elderly resident was upset and confused about something, she kept repeating herself and the hair stylist was so patient and empathetic with the elderly lady. I plan to check out a couple more facilities in the week or so, but I really think I would be hard pressed to find a place I like better than Clark Lindsey. "

"I visited Heartland Healthcare of Champaign, IL in May of 2010. From the outside it looked decent enough but as I went inside I could tell it needed many changes. First of all, when you got to the third floor there was a stench of urine. I looked in the showers and they were full of used diapers and old towels strewn about. Call lights were going off and there definitely were not enough workers. The staff looked tired and I could tell they were overworked. The residents there did not look very happy and I was displeased overall at my visit. The only positive was seeing the dining hall. It was spacious and did not look too crowded, the food looked very good and the residents seemed to enjoy the food and being social with the other residents. Overall, I would not recommend this facility for anyone's loved one. "

"My wife stayed at Champaign Urbana Reg Rehab Center for rehab and physical therapy. People can become engaged as they want, or are able to, and they’ve had people in different stages of awareness. They have activities going on, but the meals are kind of bland across the board."

"I chose Helia Healthcare for my mother because it's close to where we live. They give them a couple of choices on food. The place is really clean and they're extremely helpful. There are a lot of activities there and they bring in a lot of stuff like karaoke and band. They take them on little outings. They have a TV in their room and their own private shower and bath. It looks nice. What I liked best about the facility is their willingness to help and the location. "

"I wasn’t very impressed with ARCH & HELIA Healthcare of Champaign. The general environment was vastly different, it was much older, and I didn’t care for the facility at all. When I first walked in the place, I did not want to put my wife in there. It wasn’t extremely clean, but the members inside didn’t look well-taken care of, and I just didn’t get a good feeling about the place in general."
