Nursing Home Communities in Midway, GA

"My mother-in-law is at the Resorts at Pooler (Formerly The Place at Pooler). She's been there on and off already for rehab. This is a place that she already was comfortable with because she knew the nurses. I have not been in it since she has been in the nursing home. I don't know how it's changed with the new management. I can't really see any of the changes or what the inside of the room looks like except through the window. She is complaining about everything because she doesn't want to be there, but when I looked through the window, it looks clean, it looks like they were putting new beds in there, and it looks like they already had put new flooring down, so to me it looked pretty nice. Now that she is in the nursing home, they call every three months. We were used to getting a little bit more of a frequent call, but they said that was because of rehab. There are different apartments that I like more than others. I'm not crazy about the business office. They never call me back, but every time I called to speak to the social worker, she lays time aside and talks to me in length, and she's very good. They don't have anything outdoors really. They set up a little visitors' area, but it didn't look like it went off very well. I don't know if it's even still on the building. They were trying to let people visit, but yet they still really weren't able to be outside social distancing. The only one thing that I would say as a complaint is a lot of the grates that go on the air-conditioners outside have been off for many months and they're just hanging off the building or laying down next to the air-conditioning unit. Every room has their own unit, so it gives really a bad appearance. The people are only going to the window, so the only view they're getting to see is how much in disarray the building is. They were refurbishing the kitchen the last few months. There have been things they tore out of the kitchen. The old stove is still sitting there and it's right in the way of walking to the back, where you have to go to the window. They're not bearing in mind that people see that and that they're judging by that. They really need to freshen up the outside look of the building. Now with new owners, they're probably trying to tackle one thing at a time. I noticed they put up new blinds inside the room. The old ones looked broken, and we were trying to have window visits with broken blinds that wouldn't go up. To me, it looks like they're trying to tackle the inside first and the outside maybe later, but it's kind of in disrepair a little on the outside. I like the staff very well. I haven't seen the menu, but she is a very picky eater and she doesn't like anything. She complains about all food. If it's not her cooking, she doesn't like it. She says she doesn't like a lot of what she gets, but there's at least something that she likes on her tray. She complains a lot about the food and that's more of my mother-in-law's problem and not the problem of the nursing home. The nurses are good, but the business office needs to return phone calls. There are oftentimes questions that we have, especially when we went from one insurance to another. If they don't return phone calls and they leave us kind of stranded, and because we can't get in the building, it appears like they don't respect the fact that we have things that we need answered. The inside might be better than the outside. The outside needs work. They need to pressure wash the outside of the building, and they need to fix all of the broken things that are hanging off."

"My mother recently moved into the cottages at the Marshes, and I can’t overstate how happy I am that she is able to live independently and vibrantly, while still having quick access to services as convenience and need require. A longtime Savannah resident, she lives nearby decades-long friends so she has a social support network, and has integrated herself into the activities offered on the property. The non-profit nature of the Marshes gives me comfort that her residence and care will be dictated by her best interests, not those of shareholders. "

"Select Care Hospital 4th Floor of Candler 95% of the nursing staff is rude and seem VERY uncaring, there is a nurse by the name of Valerie who was spectacular though. One nurse named Mea(?) or something close to that was especially rude, contradicting and spoke down to my mother and me when asking about her medication (it was given hours after it was due and was a time-sensitive medication). My mother was made to wait for help to go to the bathroom multiple (no less than 10 time) over 30-45 minutes after calling for help. She was also left on a bedpan and potty seat for 30-45 a couple of times. I spent almost 90 days there with my very ill mother. I complained multiple times to the manager (Cynthia) very nice but does not know how to get results obviously, I would suggest another place in Savannah for better care. Doctors were wonderful though. Food terrible, but that was the least of the issues I had with the place. They also had VERY out of date and uncomfortable chairs for family and friends to use while visiting. "

"My husband was at Azalealand Nursing Home. The staff was very helpful and caring. It is a family-owned home, and it has been here for close to 40 years, I think. A brother and a sister own it, and they are there everyday. The food was pretty good. There were things going on. They have book club frequently, they have games out in the main big area, and they have ice cream Sunday afternoon. They also have physical therapy. My husband had a private room, and it was adequate. "

"My mom is a resident of Tara at Thunderbolt Nursing & Rehab. They have a common area in the back. They have an ice cream section, and if you sit in that common room, you can see the water in the distance. They have blinds and stuff, and they have a backyard. Then they have the front porch where people are sitting. They have a list of activities, but my mom doesn't participate in that yet. She is not doing that. She likes the food though. I think the care is good. However, sometimes the residents need to be changed more often than they get to be changed. They said they don't change them an hour before lunch and an hour after lunch, but I think my mom needed to be changed sometimes when she didn't get to be changed, and that's the only thing I noticed that I had a problem with"

"The people seem nice and very attentive at Westview. They provide a smoke break a couple of times a day. The facility isn't very new or very fancy but it appears to be clean. "
