"I went to visit a friend in Capitol Hill Healthcare Center. It was a good experience. The staff was very friendly. When they were handling my friend and doing things for her, they were very gentle, and they seemed very patient and fun. She was there for rehabilitation for maybe three months after a surgery. She actually enjoyed her time there, and she liked the people. The facility was clean visually, but it smelled. Being closed in, you could smell the food cooking from the kitchen, and it smelled of cleaning products, so it was unpleasant to me. I got used to it after being there a little while, but it smelled. There were two wings shaped like a U, and there was a courtyard in the middle where the people could go. The building was older, but it was very well maintained and clean, and the people had the option of watching TV, playing games, or having tea on the courtyard, so it was nice."

"My father was at Prattville Health And Rehabilitation for about 3 weeks. It wasn't that the CNA staff wasn't capable, it was that they had too many patients. They weren't able to take care of the patients. I had to stay with my father 24/7 round the clock for him to receive what I consider appropriate care. The rehabilitation people, the physical therapists, and the occupational therapists were wonderful. It was just that the place was understaffed. The building and the facilities needed to be updated. My father's room was acceptable. I wouldn't call it anything extravagant. The food was also fair. Some days were better than others, but they were adequate. Their idea of an activity was to roll the elderly people in the middle of a tiny room and watch TV. Half of them were lethargic and smelled like urine. Overall, the staff was nice and seemed capable. But they change my father at 5:00 in the afternoon when they bring him his supper tray and the next morning at 6:00, the supper tray is still there. He's supposed to be changed every 2 to 3 hours. And if I had not been there, he would be sitting in a soiled bed. It was not acceptable, and that happened more than once. And on the weekends, it was really bad. There were no RNs there. There was an LPN that sat at the nurse's station and the rest of them were CNAs. The LPN never did any work. The CNAs did the work and some of the CNAs had anywhere upwards to 18 patients, and that's not acceptable. We had some good CNAs, it's just that they couldn't get around to everyone."

"My mother went through rehab at the Golden LivingCenter, and it was very good. I was very happy with them. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and very encouraging. Their rehab staff was very competent. They’re undergoing construction right now, but except for that, everything is just lovely. Their rehab is one of the few that have private rooms for their rehab patients; and on the long-term end, their nursing home offers private rooms, which were what we were the most interested in. The food was OK, but it would really take a lot of money to have a menu so diverse that everybody would be happy. "

"My friend is currently in this facility and although she said some of the nurse practitioners and CNAs are ok most are lazy and some are downright rude. They run out of her meds, the food Is often cold when served and the very large wound on her leg is supposed to be cleaned and dressed daily but sometimes it goes 3 or 4 days without being taken care of. She has complained of chest pain and they do nothing to find out what has caused it. She has congestive heart failure and chest pain could mean something serious is going on. I would never send anyone to this facility, they need a good shake down from the director all the way down the line of employees. I'm old school, I believe if you take a job you should perform all you duties to the very best of your ability and not just go through the motions just enough to keep the job and collect a pay check."

"My friend has been in this facility for a while. I can see a difference in the building when I visit her now. A lots of new people who really seem to care. My friend is always nice and clean when I visits with her. "

"The staff at Cedar Crest was nice, friendly, and gave me a nice tour. It was well maintained. "

"The care with which my grandmother resident at John Knox Manor receives is exceptional. After losing mobility from the result of a stroke, she was placed in the staff's loving hands. The facilities, although an older building, have been restored extensively putting my grandma in excellent conditions. Her room is very decent and even includes her own personal bathroom and kitchen. There are always activities for her to do, which she thoroughly enjoys. A nurse goes to her room about once a day just to check up on her and her physical therapist is in house. Even the food, which is served twice daily, is actually quite delicious. The grounds of John Knox include multiple walking paths as well as a gazebo and several porches outfitted with rocking chairs. Many birdfeeders also adorn the grounds, which allows for a variety of birds, something that made my grandmother's transition a little bit easier. Overall, John Knox Manor is a caring facility that places the utmost importance on its residents. I would highly recommend John Knox to any senior needing a helping hand. "

"Woodley Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center was well kept and clean. The staff was nice and friendly. They had an activity schedule of different things going on, and it seemed well organized and reasonable. The dining area was nice and well kept. They had residents in there at the time I visited, and the room seemed clean and well kept. "

"I thought HealthSouth Rehabilitation did a really good job; I liked it. The place was clean; the staff seemed to be attentive. The physical and occupational therapists were both very helpful and really helped get my mom going after a couple of weeks. "

"New Day Senior Care seemed to be okay. I have a friend staying there. Their rooms are nice. You can choose a room with scenery if you want to. The food there seemed pretty good. They have a lot of activities but she just don't participate. They have a calendar on the wall of thing that they would be doing. "
