Assisted Living Reviews for Brookdale Hendersonville East

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We're very, very pleased with Emeritus. The residents are friendly, they're well cared for. The staff is really friendly, professional and very nice to work with. We are pleased that there is physical therapy and occupational therapy in-house and mom loves the OT and PT staff. We're glad that there's a nice hair salon right there and the meals are fine. We're happy with the meals and just very happy with the staff. Her room is very nice. It's a little room and it's very sweet and quiet.

My grandfather was the one who picked Emeritus. The place is very clean and the décor is nice. It's a very pleasant place. Everyone there has been very friendly. All of the CNAs were very helpful. Anytime my grandfather pushes this little button, somebody comes to help him with whatever he needs. He is satisfied with the food. He does have a couple of folks that he eats with. He's a crotchety old man so he's not exactly happy but he was quite happy when he came. They offer all kinds of assistance like they do their laundry, they clean their rooms. They help them in and out of showers, they make the beds. This is just the level of assistance with what we were looking for. They have movie nights and bingo, a library and a billiards room. They have music in there all the time in the lobby. They have trips that they could take into town or other special trips.

My friend is at Emeritus for about a couple of months now. The environment is great. I like the location and the rooms are nice.

It was very nice and I was very interested in it. It was a bigger facility and had so many people to take care of. The food was good. She had a very large apartment when she was there with a full kitchen, a little dining area, living room, a bedroom and a patio to walk the dog with. However, considering they had three floors and my mother had dementia, she was having hard time which floor to go to.

(adult child of a past resident) The facility prides itself on the residents independence. So if you have a parent that needs extra care, all of the extra care is "extra" and expensive. (Probably ranging from $500 - $1,000 or more.) The Weston Group which is their physical therapy, is actually owned by Emeritus. So the facility actually gets extra money by you using their therapy on site. The resident care director though is very observant and helpful when you really need the help. If a resident doesn't eat two meals, then a nurse is notified. So your parent could go with only 1 meal a day....and for the first 3 months of 2013, didn't have a doctor or NP that would come to facility, so parent has to be able to go to the local doctor. The rides to doctors are only done on Tues - Thurs, and only till 2:00. If anything happens otherwise, they have to call the doctor, or send to local hospital in an ambulance, which can be expensive too. Has alot of activities if resident will or wants to participate. The med techs are nice people. The people that give the medicines are called med technicians. They are not nurses (like my parents thought they were). Found out about that after them being in there over a year. If you don't know how places work, there's alot to learn. A resident has to be able to get out of a wheelchair with the assist of only only person, (which you will pay extra for) or be able to get out by themselves, or they will probably say that, that person needs nursing home care. As long as a facility can care for (no matter what the cost to the resident) it seems nursing homes will try and send them back to the facility instead of keeping them at a nursing home. They do not accept mediciaid there, so if your parent might need it someday, you'd best look into a facility that would accept medicaid, because it's hard to move them when they get older, and it's harder for them to adjust. So pick your facillity carefully. Don't let your parents pick it, (if you can help it), cause they don't realize the true cost of things, and might not realize they might run out of money and need a medicaid facility. This is good place for people who don't need alot of extra care and don't have to worry about running out of money, but I wouldn't recommend it for the elderly who may be getting dementia or Alzheimer's, or need alot of physical help.

Provider Response

Thank you for your feedback.

The great thing about Pine Park is that it is a retirement community, perfect for those who want to live independently and require minimal help. We are not an assisted living community. We do not use MedTechs- rather, we use PN’s and RN’s. We are not certified to do two people lifts- therefore residents need to be able to stand and pivot. As an independent living community, we do not have a doctor on staff because we find it is more practical to send residents out using our five days a week transportation.

We are committed to making sure our residents are at their optimal health and always call if a resident does not show up for a meal to see if they need a meal sent to them.

The poster is correct- Pine Park IS a great place for those who do not need a lot of extra care.

Independent Living Reviews for Brookdale Hendersonville East

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Brookdale Hendersonville East is mainly independent living. It's private pay, and I like the large studio apartment with the tiny little kitchen; that's what attracted me. It was a nice community. I have a friend from church who lives there, and she just loves it. I love the 3 meals a day. It's all in one building, and there are no private cottages -- so it's very commercial -- but inside it's nice. They have a nice lobby, and they offer movie night with popcorn and candy. You can get a 17x15 square foot studio, with a nice huge closet all set up for short and long clothes. It even has some storage in the bathroom, and everything is handicap-accessible. My friend has the room to herself for $2400 a month. She has her own tiny little refrigerator, microwave, and television and is free to go about her business.

I enjoyed me visit to Brookdale Hendersonville North. It was a very nice place. The people working there were very warm, very nice, very cordial, polite, and professional. It just was not what my friend was looking for. I thought their accommodations were a little on the small side, actually. It had a barbershop, a library, a salon, and a gym.

I enjoyed the meal I ate when I went to Brookdale Hendersonville East. I also enjoyed the conversation that I had with the lady that showed me around. She was nice and helpful. The space that she showed me was smaller than where I would prefer to live. As far as I could see, the residents looked happy.

I am staying in Brookdale. It is OK. The staff is pretty good. They have very good, basic rooms with their own bathrooms. They have nice activities and take them on rides. The food is pretty good.

We looked at Brookdale Hendersonville East. It was very nice, but they had cottages. Because my mother was by herself, she wanted to make sure she was in an apartment where she would be able to see people everyday. Brookdale Hendersonville East was very nice, but it was not what she was looking for. They were offering a cottage rather than an apartment. The facility was very clean. My mother loved it. They were really nice, they were roomy, but they were cottages and she figured she would be better off in an apartment.

My parents are in Brookdale, and they are seemingly very happy. They had friends that live there. It is homey, and everybody has been really friendly and helpful. The apartment is very nice, and it is everything they need. I'm pleased with it. They seem to have a lot of activities like bingo, arts and crafts, movies, and field trips. I can't say a whole lot about it other than mom and dad are happy there, and that is all I care about.

My parents will be going to Pine Park (Emeritus at Pine Park) in about three weeks. The people there are great. The rooms are nice, and I may even go there myself. They have three meals served in a buffet style, and their dining room is very pretty. They do all kinds of extracurricular activities all the time. They have a shuttle that takes them to town or wherever they want to go. The staff is nice and knowledgeable. He was very helpful, very caring, and thoughtful. He took the time to answer all my parents' questions, and he didn't try to hurry us. He is one of the reasons we picked that place. I will absolutely recommend them to others.

I recently spent several days with my Mom at Pine Park. The food is great, staff is very friendly, & professional. Mom said she feels safe there & she is getting three nutritional meals per day. Her laundry & housekeeping are taken care of for her & she is able to go to the on site beauty shop & attend church services. I live in Idaho so it was very reassuring for me to know my Mom is being well taken care of & she is happy. My brothers and I can get back to enjoying time with Mom!

A husband was in need of a long-term care assisted living situation. Pine Park came highly recommended, and my initial phone call to them was returned immediately; each step of the way was made easy and the staff was helpful and eager to assist. Knowing that my husband likes golf, the television was turned on to a golf tournament upon his entering the room for the first time. That kind of attention to detail made a difficult transition a most pleasant one. He is settling in beautifully, has already made friends and feels "at home." I feel that we made the right choice!

My relative was a resident of Emeritus. It was a lovely facility. He had plenty of spaces to roam about inside provided he didn't go outside. We chose this facility because they have things that he likes. He is a pianist and they have a couple of pianos there that he could play. He also plays pool and they have a pool table there. He was in a private room and it was very good. They did provide nice furniture but I still had to provide furniture for him and moved those out. That didn't bother me at all. The only reason we had to move him to another facility was that it was not a locked facility and he was trying to leave it all the time. They told me that I have to move him into a locked facility because they didn't want him to get hurt.

We visited Emeritus at Pinepark and everything seemed fine. It was an independent living unit but we were looking for an assisted living unit. The room looked sufficient. Their dining room was okay. They had some activities like bingo. It was homey. The only negative aspect was that they were under the fly path of the airport; so, it was noisy with the planes going all over.

Mom is happy at Pine Park. Hendersonville is a lovely place with beautiful weather. She likes it very much there. She just hates the food. The staff is very nice. They have activities, but my mother does not participate in them and would rather go out with friends who drive her and take her places. Initially, she was in a little suite, but when her money was running out, she had to go to a smaller room. That's why we are looking for some other place.

Emeritus at Pine is an older facility. However, we are really impressed. The dining area is clean, they have a nice kitchen, the people are friendly, and the grounds are nice. Most of all, we could afford it. Everything else is way too expensive. I've already recommended them to others.

I visited this facility with my grandfather as we continue our search for the right home for my grandmother. The staff at Emeritus was very friendly and helpful, and they took the time to answer all of my grandfather's questions. The facilities were clean and charming, albeit a bit small, and the furniture and style of the facility were both impressively nice. Further, the residents seemed to be happy and the staff seemed to genuinely care about the well-being and care of the residents. Perhaps my favorite part of this particular facility is its location in Hendersonville, North Carolina, just outside of Asheville. This region offers a great climate that allows for all four seasons but has typically mild winters and moderate summers as well. Based on our tour, I would recommend this facility, and a special thank you to the Emeritus staff for taking the time to show us around and answer our questions!
