My mom is in Orzac Center for Rehabilitation for rehab. So far the nurses are excellent. I think that the nursing assistants could use a little more assisting as far as being attentive. Rehabilitation is the number one in this area, that's why we were there twice a day, six days a week is excellent. The dining. is good, if you don't care for what you have, you can call downstairs and they'll send you something else. I like that. I like the fact that when there are underlying conditions like my mother's because she has DVT, I noticed that her leg is huge the same way it was when I first took her to the E.R. last Sunday. And immediately the doctor came in at this time of the night. She's in a shared room, I had an issue with the bathroom, it was awful. And the floor was being mopped, but they weren't doing the wall behind the toilet. So if you have a family member who's there who can push it, and they came in and cleaned it, it's spotless. When you first walk in, the facility is like a five-star hotel. It's beautiful. They have a huge patio area, tables and umbrellas, and they have a lot of activities. They have activities in the day room, they bring in live animals. Every day, there is something. Tomorrow is going to be a church service at 2:15. Today they did something with bingo. Every time I go there they are finishing off an activity, but just to have you take your loved one, push them in the wheelchair out on their patio, it doesn't seem like you're sitting in Valley Stream. It seems like you're sitting out somewhere in the countryside.

Unfortunately I was there, and the staff on several occasions tested positive for covid-19 we were forced on lock down, we were not allowed to leave our room, and can only have visitors outside for less then an hour. And the aids had the nerve to complain that the were being forced to get vaccinated! Meanwhile I was forced into Isolation because of them!

My mother was at Orzac Center for a month for rehab. It's relatively small, but the physical therapy was very good. The nursing staff and aides were attentive, but occasionally a bit understaffed overnight. Overall, I was very pleased especially with their physical therapy. It helped her a lot. She was in a shared room with their own bathroom. They had some scheduled activities, and there was a dayroom where they congregated to do some activities. They had a party, which she enjoyed. There were some exceptional aides that just went above and beyond. They made a huge difference in my mom's morale and motivation. The food was better than expected for hospital food.

My dad is currently at Orzac getting rehab for a broken hip. I am very happy with Orzac. The food is good, the rooms are clean, they wash Dad in the am and again in the pm. My dad also has CHF and is on oxygen so he's very weak but they have been patient with him and in less than 2 weeks there he is walking with a walker quite a ways. Kudos to nurses Salil, Vanessa, Richard, Peggy & Irene; to tech/aides Owen & Elcy; and to PT's Dory & Bridget. And, of course kudos to Dr Ausebel. Thank you so much for the patience, care and concern you have shown to my dad and to me. If you are exploring this site and feel hopelessly confused, please take my advice and come to Orzac. This is the answer to your dilemma.

there are many parts to my review, but the overwhelming factor is the the effect of rehabilitation reports and social services on my son's stay. first let me say that the level of service from the nurses, aides, etc and dr singh was outstanding and caring. my son was so well taken care of physically, mentally and socially. there are many names to mention such as julie, karlene, gerry, maria, ms jay, verna who assured the well being of my son after a major car accident. i must also mention with high marks the food service department who catered to a most picky eater putting on 30 lbs during his stay. but alas the outstanding treatment is overshadowed by the performance of the social service /rehab relationship. their goal was not the well being of patient and caregiver . on day 2 our son was met by social worker jackie who explained his stay might be a few days due to not being a medicare or medicaid patient, be prepared for a day before notice for discharge. very unsettling after 3 hip surgeries, foot and shoulder surgeries. a new social worker arrived, janet rizzo, again pushing ahead on discharge even though my son was not able to dress, toilet or bath himself( still to this day 2 weeks after not able to). he was threatened with shelter transfer, private pay, and more it seems at the 20 day mark which seems to have a meaning. anyway my wife and i were beaten down finally with promises of in home aids, physical therapy and occupational therapy based on his condition. this was all bold faced lies plain and simple to execute a discharge. i explained it wouldnt be safe due to stairs and layout.... but again the report of therapist dan set the stage for an safe discharge( my son fell down the stairs at home on 2 occasions) and to add to our distrust, the discharge reports insured that we were eligible for no aide assistance, 1 pt evaluation and 1 ot visit. all services that ms rizzo assured would be offered based on his needs. my advice would to be very careful dealing in this environment and if need be enlist legal counsel if you believe your loved one is being rushed through the system without regard for the next step outside. for the record also all who visited our home, nurse, pt and ot from northwell health, attest that this was not a safe discharge for the patient. at all

Most of the aides hide in a break room. Every time I needed help I called the nurse desk on my cell phone. Also I had to call the Nurse desk for my roommate who was vomiting

Even one star is too much for this place. The care is substandard. The rehabilitation is minimal. As soon as Medicare refuses to pay the extremely high cost they dischaywhether ready or not. Of great concern to me was the exaggerated report on progress that made it almost impossible for me to place my loved one in another facility. The threats from the social worker about the costs I will incur if I refused to move him were unbelievable.

The nursing staff seems to not want to go out of their way at all. They never call you back even thou they say they will.

I was a patient at ORZAC for about 3 weeks following extensive spine surgery. I made tremendous progress while there due to very competent physical therapist, Helen, and occupational therapist, Samantha. The nurses and aides took much care in taking care of me, changing my bed linens daily, and doing there best to keep me safe 24 hours a day. I want to especially mention Smiley, who was aptly nicknamed and Luna, who took extra care with me, even though she was very young. She gave me my shower twice a week, which brings up my only complaint. Wednesdays and Sundays is not often enough for me to feel clean and I wish that could have been more frequently.

Our mom's experience at Orzac was simply horrific. The quality of care was beyond terrible. Lack of any bedside manner or respect for patients. There were times when I would visit my mom and see patients sitting in wheelchairs begging to be brought to the bathroom while nurses and aids completely ignored them. Several times my mom would ring for assistance and would be completely ignored. There were times when she would call one of us to contact the nurse's station to get someone to help her. My mom experienced a seizure the last night she was at Orzac. She rang for the nurses and none came to assist her. Eventually she began yelling for help until someone finally came. The staff that came to assist her weren't equipped to deal with the situation. Seeing their hesitation my mom (while having a seizure) asked them to call an ambulance and get her to the hospital. ??? We were so disappointed with the care and so happy to get her to a better place. Would not recommend Orzac to anyone and would be happy to see it closed down.

NO COMMUNICATION! My family member is a patient there. Unfortunately, I have to work during the day and can only visit during the evening. If you ask questions after 5pm you will get nothing but a blank stare and told to come back during the day to ask questions. I guess there are no written records or charts? Or is it just laziness? Does this place shut down after 5pm? Does the quality of care also shut down after 5pm? What goes on here? There is absolutely no communication from the day staff either by phone. I have called repeatedly to speak to Dr. Ogunfowora (who is assigned to my family member) with no calls returned. I have also called to speak to Sahiba (my family member's case worker at this facility) with no calls returned. I would think twice about utilizing this facility. Communication with the family is key to successful rehabilitation, re-homing and creation of a goal-oriented health plan. This facility is seriously deficient is the basic needs of the patient.

Excellent rehabilitation staff. My mother made amazing progress with her OT, PT, and speech therapists. Since she was there after a major stroke and had complications, she was there for about 50 days, and I got to see several other patients there improve tremendously and go home. This was during the summer, and it was obvious at times that they were short of staff, leading to longer waits for assistance when using a call light. When I was there and could go out into the hall and ask for help for my mom in person, an NA or nurse would come right away. Also, as with many rehab homes, sometimes is was hard to communicate directly with my mothers doctor, and there was some confusion about what the new Medicare guidelines meant for how long my Mom could receive coverage. Nevertheless, most of the bumps we had along the way were resolved, and nearly everyone there is respectful and seems to really care.

The Orzac Center is a clean therapeutic environment and operates for the skilled nursing rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries. We had an excellent experience and we're happy.

Our experience with Orzac Center for Extended, overall, was good. The rooms were pretty large. The residents had their privacy, but the rooms weren't super nice. They were older.
