I visited this facility
Oak Ridge Assisted Living & Memory Care was very nice. The person who gave us the tour was very nice, helpful and answered all the questions. My father, my sister, and I toured it for my mom. All we're concerned about is the available units were all on the third floor and my dad has a bad knee. That would not work so well for mom either. It was also further away from their home physically, but it was very nice.
The staff walked us by the kitchen. She said they had two institutional chefs who had gone to culinary school, and all meals were homemade. We were very impressed with the food part of it. The dining area looked very nice. The facility was homey. The room that we saw was quite tiny, about half the size of the room she has now, and they were remodeling it.

My mother is now at Oak Ridge. We chose it because of the convenience of closeness for us to get there. The staff is amazing, and the person that runs the whole place is amazing. They're always checking in on our mother, and we've just watched them interact with other people that are living there, and they're just a great facility. She loves the food there. It is all very clean. It's excellent. The rooms are bright and cheery. Everybody is always saying hi to you. It's nice, clean, and very open. They have separate rooms if you want to be by yourself, or with a little group to eat, or whatever. It's very accommodating. The layout is fine. You can get anywhere you want if you're healthy enough to do stairs, and then of course there's the elevator, so it is very easy to get around.
Activities are great. They keep people involved if they can be. They're getting together at lunch time, and they make sure everybody is together and talking. The people are very interactive with them during that time while they're serving their meal. Also they have bingo, reading, and a discussion group.

Oak Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care was a nice place, but they don't have 2-bedroom apartments. I liked the services that they offered as well as the location. The staff member who showed us around was friendly, didn't waste our time, professional, and got right down to it right away. They were effective in discerning the needs that we had. The place was comfortable. One slight negative was that their computer screens faced the main lobby area. I would find it uncomfortable having people looking over my shoulder when I was at a computer, so there was not a lot of privacy there. They have outings, card clubs, exercise programs, and an on-site barber and hair salon, which was nice. Another nice thing I liked was they were utilizing staff from a developmentally disabled service as their cleaning staff, so they were employing people who might not be able to find another job opportunity.

My mother was very undecided on moving in but they all made her feel so welcomed and within one week, she was loving it and was wondering what took her so long to make the move. She loves all the activities they have and the food is wonderful she says.

My mom, Mavis, had moved from independent to assisted living and I came from Denver to help with last of the move. I was very happy and relieved to meet the people who were taking care of mom. Kent and Tammy were wonderful, as well as the whole staff I met!
Provider Response
Thank you for your kind words! We have really enjoyed getting to know Mavis and she has quickly become part of our Oak Ridge family.

Very small rooms, bad food (no choices)
Many many rules and poor nursing care. No activities outside, thr director will not pay for them. Stay away.

Thank you for your feedback and the chance to respond to your opinion. As far as the food goes, our meals are actually one of the first things that residents rave about when they move in. We offer a wide selection of different types of food, from favorites like meat and potatoes and fish, to chicken with mango salsa and Fajitas. All our meals are prepared from scratch by our staff in our kitchen. If there are menu items that a resident doesn’t like, then we always have alternate items they can choose from. We also love to take suggestions from our residents about what they’d like to see on them menu, and we change the menus four times a year to keep up with the seasons. We offer either studio apartments or one bedrooms, and while the studios might be small for some people, for others they are the perfect size if they don’t want a lot of room or have mobility issues. They also come with a full kitchen and a private bathroom with a shower. We have several different floor plans for our one bedrooms and the sizes are very comparable with other facilities. I was in a new building in St. Paul recently and our one bedrooms actually had more square footage. I think you will find that in all senior housing communities, they have rules to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the community for all residents. Many of our rules are mandated by the state and must be complied with. I find our staff to be exceptional. Someone can’t work well in this industry without having a love and compassion for the senior population. We are continually training our staff so they are current with state mandated topics and hours. We also do in-services to raise awareness of various topics. Our lack of having our own bus is indeed a challenge. In the past, we have contracted with private bus companies several times a year to give our resident outings. Some favorites have been trips to a nature center and apple orchard, Christmas light tours, and visiting a local historical site then stopping for ice cream. There is also a DARTs loop bus that comes once a week that goes all over town that our residents enjoy taking. This allows them to go shopping, go out to eat, go to the library or to doctor’s appointments.

When I first walked in the front door, I knew I was home. I love the people here and the aides who take care of me. The first person I met was Barb. She was so kind and answers my questions. I'm very happy with my apartment. Everyone who works in the kitchen are super great. I'm so glad I live here.

Oak Ridge was very nice. The staff was very accommodating and gave us a very nice tour. The distance was a little too far for us, but otherwise, it was fine. The rooms were comparable with the other two that we visited. The residents were just finishing up dinner. They're very well attended to.

Oak Ridge had many of the amenities that the other place had, but the rooms were quite smaller. They were only one-bedroom apartments or studio apartments, and my parents wanted something larger. As far as facilities and activities, they were comparable. What needs to improve is the size of their rooms.
