"Orchard Estate of Woodbury was wonderful. I was amazingly surprised that this facility was everything that I would want. It met all the things I had on my list. The people I saw seemed to be very content. I saw some activities and I saw the living facilities. I saw both the one-bedroom and the studio apartments. They were just what a senior would want. Not too big. Not too small. The care seemed to be well planned. Everything was available for you. In this facility, they don't allow cooking in the rooms except the microwave. There's no stove, but there's a fridge and a microwave, and that would be ample for any adult wanting to take care of themselves somewhat. The person who gave the tour was very friendly and very knowledgeable. She had nothing but praise for everything she showed us. They gave me a menu, which I was very interested in. They gave us a little token quiche when we finished the tour, which was made there, and it was piping hot and delicious. The décor was wonderful. They had decorated already for the holidays, and it looked very inviting. I would recommend that. "

"Atria Bayshore is farther away, which is the one issue, you know if I want to visit my parents. There was also an issue with the catheter. They would have the ability to change the bag, but not remove it. So that's an issue, they would have to send my father out to a facility and he's in a walker, so that makes it difficult. The rooms, I don't think they come with furniture. It was nice, it was clean. The staff was OK. They have puzzles, bingo movies, you know, that type of thing, every day is different. They have something planned every single day. The facilities outside looked like a backyard close, it wasn't that big. They had a chef there, I spoke to him and everything, so it looked pretty good what they offered."

"My godmother had recently moved into The Arbors East Islandia. The room is beautiful and it meets all her needs. All the staff have been friendily and extremely helpful. They always have a smile and are there to assist when needed. The staff are warm and compassionate! They do extra things for the residents because they care about them like they are their own family. The activities are community focused and are entertaining. Every time when visit my godmother has a smile and has been pleased with what The Arbors has to offer to her. "

"I love Sunrise of West Babylon. It's very clean and nice, and the people were very nice as well. The building itself is beautiful. The director who runs it went above and beyond. She is very pleasant. They offer different activities. "

"I loved Sunrise. It was clean, bright, and airy. The residents looked happy. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were quite spacious with an area where the bed was, a dresser, chair, and a little kitchenette. It was quite nice. I didn’t taste the food, but they have a restaurant type of food. The have so many activities. They have a chapel upstairs, a beauty parlor, and a lot of stuff going on. "

"Christian Fellowship House was assisted living. It was more like a bed and breakfast. It was not like the others. It was an old, big mansion. It was very nice, and they had dogs. They had animals outside. They had the horses and the stables. They had separate apartments. You have your bedroom, and everybody comes down for meals. You have to pull to get the gate of the elevator closed. Barely two people could fit in there, but they have a stair chair that goes up. The staff were all great. The residents were all walking around. Everybody seemed really nice and really friendly. I don't think there was anything to improve. It was very nice and very clean. You could have a TV in your room, but they don't have them."

"My father is at Amber Court of Westbury. It's all good and the room is a good size. They have activities going on, but I'm not always there, so I don't see everything. They have a salon, physical therapy, and an activities room with a TV. The food is fine, and he hasn't complained about it. They have a courtyard, but I haven't been out there, though. I haven't been there during meals because they don't really encourage you to visit during meals. The value is good compared to other facilities."

"We toured All American Assisted Living at Coram. I talked to the girl. She answered my questions and gave me more information about other things. She gave me a tour of the facility, which I liked. She gave my mom a gift. My mom liked that place. When you go to some places, they smell, and there's an odor sometimes, but All American Assisted Living doesn't have that. It was pretty, and everything was clean. The memory care unit had a patio, a bistro, a living room in front, and a craft room."

"My father has been a resident at Maplewood of Darien for 5 months. We have been very pleased with his care. His room, which is a studio, is very generously sized , the handicapped bathroom is large and the kitchenette is perfect for him. The staff is very attentive. When I am there even for the shortest visit, invariably a staff member will knock on his door to check on him. They have a broad range of activities. My father's favorites involve the outings such as scenic drives, concerts, plays and luncheons. He enjoys having lunch with a good friend he has made at the facility. Maplewood also allows me to coordinate his care with the V.A. where he receives his medications. The managing and administrative staff is very responsive and are always working to develop programs that the residents enjoy. I would highly recommend this facility."

"Brand new facility (though clearly managed by an experienced team), extremely clean and upscale without feeling too fussy. The rooms were relatively spacious with good-sized closets and modern bathrooms, though the showers were fairly small. We toured primarily the secured "Currents" floor (moderate-to-late stage dementia) and were extremely impressed by the connection staff had with the residents (greeting each other by first name, lots of smiles and affection). The facility allows someone to age in place - so barring any extreme nursing requirements, residents would not have to move into a skilled nursing facility. Residents appeared to be extremely engaged (on various levels) with personalized activities, a visiting pet for therapy, word games, etc - multiple activities happening, but it didn't feel too busy or potentially overwhelming for a dementia resident. We didn't taste the "farm-to-table" food, but by reputation it's amazing. They also pride themselves on having an RN onsite 24/7, and a "brain center" where residents work with computers that have special programs for cognitively impaired residents. Overall, the community felt incredibly welcoming - I would have no concerns about my mom living here. It's definitely on our short list. "
