My cousin is in Fitchburg Healthcare. They always have someone at the desk. There are two buttons to make the door open, and somebody at the desk usually sees you. And then you just go to that desk and sign in and you say who you're visiting. It's very clean. The staff is very attentive when my cousin puts the light on or whatever, and they make sure the patients are clean, but my cousin doesn't like that. He complains about that because he doesn't want to be clean. My cousin is more or less bedridden, but they get him up and about. They have an activity center on the first floor. My cousin has a calendar with the activities that they're doing daily. I've never been there during meal time, but he always wants me to bring him food. He complains about everything though. They let them go outside and smoke, too.

My grandfather is in Golden LivingCenter. We like that it is very friendly, and they are able to have pets. They take people to trips to the mall, to get ice cream, and other places. There is a mall and a couple of hospitals around the area. It is pretty much in the city area, so you pretty much have access to everything.

My mom was in this facility and died there, as expected, under hospice care. I visited nearly every day for the 6 weeks or so that she was there, and I interacted with many of the staff. In general I found them to be competent and caring: one or two less so, but many who were excellent. I have given only three stars because Golden Living's business offices are amateur hour and deserve no stars, both the staff on site and their billings department in Arkansas. More than 2 months after my mom's death they started dunning me for an unpaid charge for which I never received an invoice! They were rude to me when I tried clearing things up over the phone and the paperwork I requested showing the billing detail was absolute gibberish. (I did finally decipher what the charges were for, no thanks to them, and paid the bill.) Along the way and without my knowledge they placed a lien on my mom's estate for the unbilled charges. In the end – and only after I sent a letter of complaint to their CEO – I received both a phone call and a letter from Golden Living, formally apologizing for their failures, as well as the paperwork showing they had filed court papers to lift the lien. While I appreciate the apology, I am not convinced they will do what is necessary to prevent future abuse of clients by their billing team.
