I would like to recognize Garrett, a very good, pleasant nurse. He is always sure to stop in to see how the residents are doing. His warmth and overall pleasantness makes him a joy to be around.

When my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was in need of help with her personal care. I went to visit her at Westpark when she first moved in and she was in such horrible denial and so depressed. I know a lot of it is because she was younger than most women in this facility and she was dealing with the thoughts of possibly dying from the cancer. I stayed with her for many hours those first few days. Then I had to go out of town with my job for two weeks. I came back to another person entirely. The staff had really made it their purpose to help her adjust to living in the nursing home. They made a conscious effort to help her. The staff told me that they were going to get her interested in teaching painting to the other residents. They had found out that my aunt was an art teacher when she worked. This gave my aunt something to focus her attention, other than the cancer. She lived there for two happy years before the cancer spread to her liver and she passed away. The staff really made her last two years happy ones.
