Independent Living Communities in Winchester, VA

"My mother-in-law has moved into Hilltop. It's very nice. When you step through the door, there's an area that has a TV for the residents. It's very nice. Then when you go down the hallway, there's an area where you can bring your loved one out. In the memory care piece, each resident has their own room. They're well-engaged. It's absolutely clean. We bring our own furniture. Everybody has their own furniture and it's very comfortable. The staff is very good with her and very patient. They're that way with all of the residents, from what we can tell. The dining area is very nice. She likes the food. She tries to take food from other residents, especially chocolate. They have plenty of activities for them. We weren't sure how she would do in an environment with others because she had lived by herself for so long, and she has made progress. She fits in there well. She enjoys it. We are very surprised. They have singalongs. They have remembrance times. They have activities as far as physical activities, such as ball throwing and catching. What was nice, too, about them is that you don't see the residents at this memory care sitting in the hallway in wheelchairs or beds. They're all up and moving around and walking. They have a TV room that they can all sit in and watch movies. They are very active and it's very nice to see that."

"I like the fact that once you get into Westminster-Canterbury, Shenandoah Valley, you can move to whatever level of care you need. If five years from now, I'm not able to get around, I can move to assisted living. It's a very nice facility. It's a good, solid place. There's enough room for everybody. Even if you are in the independent living, they do your laundry and clean your apartment once a week. The building is made of high quality materials. It's well-built. They have gardens around where residents are welcomed to work. The staff was very positive. They answered all of my questions."

"The Village at Orchard Ridge was very nice with complete service. They provide 3 meals a day and you have your own apartment. They do your laundry and the cleaning. They take care of the place. It was very clean and I was very impressed with it. I met a couple of staff members and they were very good. The dining area was very nice and looked very professional."

"Trilogy at Lake Frederick is a great area. It's very picturesque. There are a lot of wineries and a lot of historical places to visit. It's about an hour and a half from Washington, D.C. There's a multitude of clubs here. We have athletic facilities, a full workout, an indoor and outdoor pool, a tennis court, pickleball, and that stuff. There is a restaurant that's not just exclusive to the seniors. It's open to the public, but there's a section of the clubhouse that is reserved for seniors. There are many activities, like happy hours, outdoor concerts, and things like that for residents. The only thing we get from the community is landscaping, lawn care, and trash. That's part of the HOA. The people here are very nice and very helpful. There's a lot of local people."
