"We toured the Virginia Greens. That's a new one, but it's too expensive for my brother and also too fancy. It's very nice. I wouldn't mind living there myself. It is independent living only, and I wanted a place in case my brother gets to a point where he needs more, and I wanted to have assisted living available. They had everything, including a 150-seat theater. It's all connected, dining areas inside and out, and everything was very nice. The staff and his wife both live on the premises, which I would take as an advantage for residents. They were approachable."

"I visited The Talbot on Granby, and it's a very nice place. It offered two meals a day and had a very strong, caring nursing staff. It was right next door to a hospital. They had a salon but not an indoor pool. They had a good variety of activities."

"Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg is pretty good and things are going pretty well for my sister. It's really clean and we like the size of my sister's unit. It has a larger kitchen than most, a different entryway, and has just been re-carpeted and repainted. We liked the idea of having out meals provided. Most of the people are older than my sister, but she's pretty happy there. They have Bible study, Bingo, Happy Hour, and cakewalks. My sister also works out in wheelchair aerobics. They have a vehicle that can take them to doctors' appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I like the dining area because the independent people eat in a different place from the assisted living residents. The food is good and my sister likes it. They don't serve lunch, but they take them out for lunch every once in a while, and they take them to the grocery stores where they can buy food for their noontime meal. They eat dinner between 4:30 and 6:00. The independent living area is immaculate and very clean."

"Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg was an older facility, but very active. Everybody that I talked with was very pleasant. It was a large facility. They had several different sections. They had a really nice outdoor space. The rooms were very nice. They had 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments. They had outside patios, which I liked. It is also still on my list. They had cottages as well. They provided meals, too."

"I have been to Verena at The Reserve many times and I would say it's the best. The community is wonderful, and we were very impressed with the facilities there. If I have to make a choice among the places we have visited, this one would be my choice. They have open houses within the last 3-4 years, and we've made a visit there during those times too. Their rooms were in very nice shape. They completely redo the rooms after people have vacated the place, so you will be walking into a very fresh environment. We saw some of the inhabitants there and they seemed to be satisfied. The dining room looked nice, the recreation facilities, weights room and treadmills all look fine, as well as the library. It was a very nice place. The staff who gave the tour was extremely knowledgeable of the place and very accommodating. They serve 2 meals a day."

"My dad moved into Edgeworth Park at New Town. It's been great. The nurses are abundant. I can't walk out of his door and walk down the hall without seeing one, or two of them. They check on him very regularly. They spend time with him. They prod a little bit deeper to make sure that he is having a good day. The community is much smaller. In terms of the whole community, 88 total residents are their cap as opposed to a much bigger place that has thousands of people at different levels of care. So he seems to get a much better level of care there. His apartment is bigger and brighter. The whole facility is very bright and has a lot of sunlight coming in, which is nice. They have a beautiful courtyard area. It's huge. It has a little walking path which he can take his wheelchair around. It has bird feeders, it has flowers, and they let the residents plant stuff if they want. They have little gardens, or herb gardens, or whatever they want to plant, and lots of birds, which he loves. When he goes outside, he's looking into a beautiful courtyard that's very well manicured, and has lots of places to sit, instead of what he was looking at, which was if he went outside to get some air, he was looking at a parking lot. They have a library, they offer all kinds of things during the day, different programs. They have get-togethers every 3:30 pm, just come and chat, and have some time before dinner. They do family nights, I experienced that the other night, and that was just amazing. They put on a great, big buffet. They had nice food, pies, and all kinds of desserts. And they played games afterward, and we can participate. It's clean, it smells nice, and I've never seen any messes left on any of the tables. Everybody's right on top of it. And I see at least four cleaning carts. They have cleaning cards for each one of the wings. So it just seems like they're always out making sure that everything is tidy and kept, and trash is gone. I think the cost is commensurate with the amount of attention and care that he's getting, the facility itself, the food, and the number of activities. I think that it's all commensurate with the amount that we're paying."

"My mom moved into Acclaim at East Beach. It's one of the newer places. It's in the East Beach area, Norfolk. And she has a view of the Marina and the naval base, which is nice. The people who work there are awesome. There's also a restaurant there. People who live there could get on a meal plan and just eat there when they want to, a couple of meals a day. They have so many activities to choose from. There's something for everybody there. What they do provide is a continental breakfast every morning. So my mom goes down for coffee and you can get like fruit and croissants and stuff like that. But the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and you can get on a meal plan, so you don't have to cook. Each room has its own kitchen. But you can make up your mind if you want to do the meal plan or just cook yourself."

"Commonwealth Senior Living is very nice. There seemed to be a lot of activities. The rooms are normal with a small kitchen area. The staff treated me very well. I was invited for lunch, and the food was very tasty and well-presented."

"Excellent care... staff is professional and very caring. You will have peace of mind knowing that your loved one is getting the best care. The resident homes are beautiful and well maintained. I am blessed to have found Ms. Ravenall and her staff to care for my father."

"I visited The Reserve at Greenbrier. It was very nice, they had a lot of activities, and my interaction with the staff was good. They had a little kitchen area for coffee and stuff, they had a gaming room, and a library. They had a daily calendar of activities and the facilities were nice."

"I toured Willow Creek Gracious Retirement Living. It was easily accessible. It was a very beautiful environment, and the staff was very accommodating and very pleasant. It was beautifully staged, and the physical facilities were very, very attractive. I saw some of the folks that were there participating in the activities, and they were very welcoming."

"Harmony at Oakbrooke was fairly new, so everything was still in tiptop shape. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They had a salon, a gym, and activities. They are very new. They were built in 2018. Everything feels new, in good working condition, well maintained, well kept, and clean. For us, it is very local since we live there, but there's a lot of stuff around. It is centralized, and you can get to a lot of things."

"Lighthouse Pointe was a nice facility. For my mother's needs, it was accommodating. To me, that's more for independent seniors. But it's a beautiful facility and has beautiful staff. Very pleasant. I definitely would recommend them to other families, especially if they have a senior that's a little more active and a little more independent. I think they would find them to be a good option for them. The rooms were nice. They had rooms with bathrooms in them. The one that I looked at did not have any appliances at all. But they had a beautiful dining hall, and they offered snacks and things like that. You can tell the building was very well maintained. Just from the location itself, it was located in a very beautiful section of Chesapeake. The staff came in on his day off to do the tour for me, and I was impressed with that. The staff that was there on the day that I came in for the tour, was very warm, inviting, very friendly, and very helpful. I would highly recommend that to other families. It's just that for me, what I was looking for and what I needed from my mother, I just felt that it was not a good fit for her. The staff who toured me had a beautiful personality. They went above and beyond."

"Seemed kind of in the middle of things that they need or they could easily get transportation to without getting in the hubbub of things. They had attention to detail and they didn't have dust, dirt or grime buildup. It's one of those places where it's clean and healthy enough to be happy. It's a really new location and it hasn't been open that long so it's in really good condition."
