"It was very, very nice. I had no complaints at all. They provide lots of things that elderly people need. It's open, they have a beautiful courtyard in the center where people can go out or sit at their windows and doors and watch birds. They have plants and things that are conducive to attract the birds. The food they serve is wonderful. The rooms are clean and it didn't have a nursing home smell. It was very nice. "

"My mother moved into Harmony at Harbour View two weeks ago. Everyone's very helpful, and it seems like they really care about their residents. They have physical activities, like yoga and various exercise activities that they do. They also have social activities, like they celebrate birthdays and have group outings. They go to the minor league baseball team that's in the area, and things like that. The food is pretty good. When you move in, the family can eat with the residents. I tried it when we moved in, and it was good."

"We toured Commonwealth Senior Living at Churchland House and I liked it. It was very nice, the staff was the one who gave us a tour and was very helpful. We saw some of the seniors and they seem to be enjoying it there. The rooms look nice. I wasn't too impressed with the studio or the small room suite, only because it wasn't quite what I thought. The bathroom didn't look as big as I thought for someone who might be in a wheelchair, but the next size up, the Deluxe Suite was very nice. And they have their own little garden where they get their vegetables and herbs and stuff from. That's something that the seniors or the residents work on. And they had a big TV room, and they have grounds you could go out on. I was impressed with those places. Everything looks good, everything looks clean, there were no smells and nothing like that. The dining area was very nice, and if you want, you can go eat with your family. But they also had a separate place you could go sit with your family because their seating was a little more limited for guests, but they had another place you could go and sit with your loved ones if you wanted to have lunch or dinner with them. They were very good."

"I visited The Ballentine. It looked like a nursing home even from the lobby when you walked in. I did talk to the staff there and got some information regarding how being a veteran can help to defray some of the costs of staying there, but I got the feeling that it was a level of care that was way beyond what we were looking for at this time. "Our tour at Spring Arbor of Williamsburg was terrific. I like the place very much. I like the rooms, and I really like the dining room. It is bright, cheerful and pretty. Everybody seems very friendly and happy there. In fact, we are taking my mom and stepdad back to see it for themselves. Everybody is very efficient in doing what they needed to do. The one who did the tour was excellent. You could tell she enjoys working there."

"We went to Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg and we liked it. The lady who gave us the tour was wonderful. She was very accommodating. The staff seemed very good, but the common area for the memory care residents seemed very cramped and crowded. I didn't like the way it was set up. The dining room was lovely. They had either a single room or they had doubles with sharing a bathroom. In the bathroom, the tub area was raised and we thought that that would not be as accommodating as one that has a flat walk-in shower because you'd have to step up to get into the tub. We didn't like that and we didn't like having to share a bathroom. Outside the dining room, they had a list of activities for the month. They had themes for the month. Their theme was Castles of the World, so they were doing virtual tours of the castles in different countries every month. They seemed very organized with all of that. They had outings. For veterans, once you've got a price, it would not go up. That was their salute or thank you to the veterans, and I liked that very much."

"We toured Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg. The empty apartment was very clean, and the other rooms, I didn't examine all the corners, but everything looked good. It's not brand-new, but everything looks well-kept, the grounds, and everything. The staff was very friendly and very helpful and has since reached out several times and advised us to put a hold on that apartment. She has maintained that even though it's been a month. That apartment has been held, though there were some other people who were interested in it, so I appreciated that very much."

"Edgeworth Park at New Town was like a high-end hotel. It was very comfortable and everyone was very welcoming. They had a nice lounge area and there's a concierge that greeted us, had us sign in, and was able to get the people we needed for the tour. They were all very friendly and very helpful. I watched a lot of interaction with the other residents and I was very pleased with just the general gentleness of the people. The meal was very good and my parents were very pleased with the options that they had. Everything was very tasty."

"We chose Acclaim at East Beach because it was close to home, and we enjoyed being on the water. It's beautiful. We got two bedrooms and two baths. All amenities are included if we would like. The staff members were very nice and helpful. The room was very big, spacious, and very clean. They have a variety of rooms. They have a dining room, but I'll be doing my own cooking."

"My experience with the tour at Dominion Village at Williamsburg facility was great. They were proficient; they won't just do it. We saw all the amenities, it was a nice little place. We're leaning towards the other community, and one reason was that Dominion has a mental health care facility on one end, and the other end is more assisted living. I didn't care for the fact that the mental is on the other end. We also toured that area and it was terrible that people are in that situation. And my mother-in-law is not that far along, but we didn't feel like that we need her to experience anything more like that. The staff was excellent. They were very proficient and they were showing us things that were going on there, you couldn't ask for better people. They were great. We didn't try the food but the menus looked good. The layout of the place was fine. My only concern was because their showers have more of a step-in as opposed to just a straight walk-in, and people like my mother-in-law will have a bit of difficulty there. The rooms were nice, they were set up nicely. Although a little small, they would have probably been proficient. The staff, I enjoyed more than I did anything."

"1st problem is you don't a straight answer to anything. Promises are made and not followed through. I was talked to terrible and left crying. Nothing about this place is good to me. I was asked to do a review, and they stopped it from being posted. Would not recommend this place. "

"We toured Brookdale Virginia Beach. The rooms they showed us were very nice. They showed us a semi-private room, a smaller private room, and a larger private room. They have several common areas that are also very nice. There is a little garden area that residents can freely access because the memory care units in all these facilities are very secure, so residents can't wander out, but they are free to move around as much as they want."

"The Gardens of Virginia Beach allowed pets in their facility and that was the main reason my friend chose it. It was also close to home and everybody she knew. The rooms could be bigger but it was spacious enough. I would recommend this place depending on the person's condition. "
