"The amenities at The Chesapeake are pretty much the same as with other communities. The only difference is that their meal plan carries over for three months, so that is definitely an advantage. Their floor plan, however, does not have extra storage room. They provide a storage area but it is not very large. They provide your choice of flooring, whether you want rugs or hardwood, and the colors of the wall that you would like. They have more scheduled entertainment activities than other communities. They have the traditional transportation and nurses on-site primarily with the assisted living and the memory care. They have the typical swimming pool, like an exercise pool, but it is quite large. They do not have a theater, but they do have an all-purpose room where they could show movies. The dining area is large, and they're in the process of updating and combining four or five different eating areas, so they have much more of a choice than other communities. "

"We chose Warwick Forest Retirement Community for my mother. We just liked that it was very organized. It was clean and smelled good. It had lots of different choices of things to do. It had a nice little fish tank and a nice little bird finch cage you can go look at. The rooms are pleasant. My mother's also in hospice, so they have hospice people that come in and out a lot. You have to have a lot of patience with her. The food is very good. They have art classes and reading book clubs. You can get in the little van and go places like the mall, the bank, and a lot of other places. They gave a book for the month, and all the different things you can do for the month. They have a birthday social. My mom's just not one to participate. We would get more out of it if she were a participant, but if you were to live there and be social and go out and eat and talk and do the activities, definitely you're getting what you're paying for. The care has been good. The room size is good. The layout is not real conducive, like the TV cable is on one side of the room. Then, where you put the bed for them to be able to access the emergency pull thing is on the opposite side of the room. The TV is pretty far away from the bed. Therefore, you have to turn the TV up loud, and then your neighbors can hear because it's against the wall. We rearranged it. We got a longer cable and moved the table closer to the bed."

"I toured Karolwood Gardens Portsmouth. It was beautiful and nice, but it was a little over my budget. It was too expensive. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They showed me a one-bedroom apartment and all that. They prepared the meals and had an entertainment room for them to entertain and several other things that they do. They also have a beauty parlor and a barber shop to cut men's hair. They were established very well."

"My mother was in rehab at Harbor's Edge. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the food was an A-plus. The only negative though was you couldn't open windows, so I couldn't send her back there. She needed fresh air to breathe better. She didn't have any complaints about the food, she thought it was good. The insurance paid for it so that was pretty good. She also said that rehab was really easy. The staff went out of their way to take her outside occasionally. So that was nice, it was an extra that they went out of their way to help take care of her. They had a place where you can get some fresh air, and so they would do that for her at least once a day."

"I was a patient in the rehab department of Patriot's Colony 2 times following leg amputations. It is the best place. Great care, awesome staff, Great food, good PT, OT, etc. It was like staying at a five star resort. Better than the other rehabs I've been to."

"If I could afford Windsormeade of Williamsburg, I would have moved right there. It's a gorgeous place. They are close to hospitals. They are associated with all kinds of medical things and to me, that is important. Everything is very high quality. They had us overnight in one of houses and, "Oh, my God, it was beautiful". The apartments are large. The whole place is very, very high quality. They have all kinds of programs and they have shops. They have places were you could go and paint. They had cooking classes and what I like also, is that I could select to cook my own meals. But if you decide to go and have a dinner one night in the dining room, you can. Their dining room is superb. I wish I had a million dollars because if I did, I would have moved over there. "
