I visited this facility

The gardens has had a new administrator step in and she has done an amazing job with this facility. Staff is very helpful and caring. The building is having cosmetic renovations going on which Is great for the facility. Residents are happy and seem very well taken care of and the pricing is a plus👍🏻

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was at the Gardens Assisted Living Facility & Memory Care. She was fine when she went in there. It was horrible. They were always shorthanded. People kept not coming to work. The first three days she was in there, on the weekend, there was nobody supervising. It was just one patient care person for the 40 or so people they had in the facility. They had this kitchen supervisor moving patients and changing diapers. It was horrible. It was filthy. The room they showed me when I went in to look at the place was nice, and then the room they ended up putting my mother in was dirty. There were dead flies everywhere, plus there were a bunch of live flies, too. They did not have any kind of call system except a whistle. They gave them a whistle to blow instead of having any kind of call system if they needed help. If my mother was in her room, they would not come and get her for meals. They just didn't feed her. She didn't get fed if she was in her room. I was looking for another place for her, and that Monday night is when they called to tell me they were sending her to the hospital because she was nonresponsive, and then she died at hospice. My mother was doing assisted living, and she was fine when she went in. She was coherent and she was talking, and then she just quit talking. They were taking bad care of her. The food was barely adequate. They allowed $6 a day to feed each patient, and it included the paper goods they used to serve the food in. They did not have lids for the cups, they did not have straws, they gave them Styrofoam containers with their meal, and throwaway forks and spoons to eat with. The staff was not well trained. One gal told me she was afraid to touch my mother. There were never enough people there to take care of anybody. There was never more than two people max doing patient care, and most of the time there was just one. We were only in there three days, and most of the time I took care of her because I was up there every day. I fed her meals, too. Nobody would give her her medication because it hadn't been put into the computer system yet, so I had to give her her medications. There was nothing good about that place. There were no activities. It's every bit as expensive as places that were much nicer but didn't have room for her. They need to shut the place down. Actually, Adult Protective Services is looking into the place right now because of what happened with my mother.

I visited this facility

I got to visit Crystal Gem Manor Assisted Living. It was very old, but the location was kind of nice, it was out there in the countryside, so if a guy walked out he won't get run over or anything. The price was probably one of the best things about the place, but the facility was kind of rundown. They also had a lot of older clients or residents. The staff I spoke to and who gave me the tour were good. They had a courtyard. The building itself wasn't kept up much. I would suggest that they try to get more light in there because it seemed dark, too. There's a hospital located down the road, and there are shopping and restaurants nearby.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I am a resident here, and I find it very clean, comfortable, and homey. The food is delicious, but what really sets it apart from the others is the warmth of the staff, they REALLY DO CARE!

I am/was a resident of this facility

During my stay there, I found the place to be very amenable to my needs. From the administrator to the dietary to the aides and even housekeeping were willing to accommodate me. I do not fit the mold of a "usual" person you would see in an assisted living facility mostly to do with my age. And I know that it was difficult at times for people to find out just where I fit into the place. BUT that did not stop them from trying their best to help. The only negative that I can say about the place and which I suspect is true about most assisted living facilities is that they are geared for a certain "type" of resident. People in need of some assistance are not just the more senor members of our society. Mental health issues on the rise had brought a whole new element in need of a place like the one I stayed at. These places either need to recognize that they cannot help or adequately prepare their staff for those who have various needs.

better than most

I visited this facility

The other facilities my spouse was in smelled of pee & poop. The caregivers at Crystal Gem seem to care about the residents. They are remoldeling so from my prior experience Cry . Gem is o'k. the outdoor settings need a bit of sprucing up, but they are nice to sit outside.
