Questions about Brookdale Pointe West
What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Alzheimer’s training level 1 & 2. An 8 hour class taught upon hire and annually for all staff. We also do a State approved specialized Clare Bridge in-service training monthly for all staff regarding our specialized programing.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
1 Nurse for 12 hours daily, 2 RA’s each shift and Nurse available on call 24 hours.
What programs or activities does Brookdale Pointe West offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Daily Path- Person-Centered Care based on residents routines, habits, likes and dislikes, Be Fit- focus on keeping active everyday based on highest physical and cognitive ability, Cluster Groups and Individual Activities based on interests and ability of resident as well individualized programs through, music therapy, art therapy, Daily Chronical, Trivia and Games on our In Touch interactive computer system.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Health and Wellness Director. The assessment is conducted upon Move in, again at 30 days and then quarterly or change in condition. Multi-disciplinary approach- Memory Care Specialist, District Clinical Specialist and National Dementia support.
What techniques does Brookdale Pointe West use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Refresh Program- utilizing essential oils to awaken senses to enhance appetite, promote good, hand over hand assistance to allow greater independence, physical help with feeding as needed for o residents needing more assistance. Special diets as directed.
How does Brookdale Pointe West keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?
Open Door Policy- Family Connection Line, phone calls, emails and MD notifications upon any change.
Describe the neighborhood around Brookdale Pointe West. Is it located in a residential neighborhood, a business district, a rural setting, or other type of locale?
We are located, set back on a quiet street surrounded by Residential and some medical buildings. Our community is set back from the road in a beautiful Large Oak tree lined property complete with flowers, residents ducks, Birds and squirrels. It is very serene and calming and looks like a large one story ranch house.
Is Brookdale Pointe West affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
While we are not affiliated with a specific hospital, Blake Medical Center is 1 ½ blocks from our community. We have several Physicians that come in to our community to see our residents.
