"We visited the memory care unit of Milford Place. It was fantastic. The unit was clean. It looked like the clients there were well taken care of. It was the daytime and they had adequate staffing to assist them with their lunch because some of them were one-on-one care when it came to eating. The staff was excellent. The rooms were adequate, very pretty, and clean. I was just very impressed with the rooms. They were private rooms for all the clients. It's almost like home. The layout was very pleasant. They had an open garden courtyard that they could go to any time, and it was well protected by four walls that the clients could not walk away from. There was also another garden that the family members could take their loved ones out to, but they would always be with a staff member or a family member if they were in that particular area. The door to that garden was locked at all times, so they could not get out on their own. They had free access to go to the courtyard. The hallways were wide and accessible. It was a nice place. I had desserts from the community. I met with the chef, and he explained the meals to me and explained how they would assess my husband for any special needs, and what they would do if they would meet his special needs and how they do that. I was very pleased with that, too. They had a dining area. There's a table set up for them that two to four people could sit at. It was almost like a cafe-type setting. If they made friends, then they could have the availability to sit with their friends and just chitchat while they ate. Staff members were floating around at all times while they were in there eating. They have some memory activities where they were playing games and trying to engage them like flipping cards and finding the same card all the time. They have a tool bench for guys that like to do tools and work with things. The courtyard also has a garden in it where they can grow flowers, vegetables, or whatever during the season. They keep them active as long as they can. They don't force it on them, though. Some were just sitting there watching TV because they didn't want to do anything that day."
