"This facility has recently come under new ownership about 2 years ago. The rooms have recently been remodeled and the atmosphere is a great change from when we visited the first time in 2013. The staff are bright, cheerful and care about those they assist, the food was great, they have a great activities program and overall our experience was above par. I would definitely send my loved one here when the time comes. "

"It was very small, but it was a wonderful place. The staff gave us an amazing tour. She was very honest about the care they give, and about what they can't provide. As soon as we walked in, we just loved the community feel, the warmth, and the care. It was outstanding. A lot of the doors were open. They were decorated with each person's little personal things inside as well as outside. It was our number one place to go. They provided a lot of activities on a variety of levels. They had a dining room for a family where more than one or two people could come and share a birthday or a holiday with family, and you could be there with as many people as would fit in the room and have a meal. It was a special place. They had a menu that looked very balanced. The place reminded me of an ordinary home. It wasn't sterile like some of the nursing homes. It was perfect."

"We went to North Star Retirement Community. It's very good, very thorough, nothing but praises for them. We focused on Independent living. They showed us a lot of things and they called us ahead of time as well and gave us details on what is part of independent living and what's part of assisted living. So that was helpful. They have a variety of different crafts and arts, social get-togethers, and a variety of types of games. So if you don't like one type, there are so many to choose from. While we were there, we're able to pick our heads, and they're playing bingo. There's two types of bingo, there's bingo where you can play with pennies, but we just play for fun, you don't have to use your pennies. They had a library, and my parents like to read. They had an activity board that had so many activities listed. It was nice. Kayla was amazing, Megan was wonderful. They were wonderful, so my dad didn't want to go walking on the tour. And so Rachel went and got him a cup of coffee and she was going to give him a cookie and I let them know he was diabetic. She's like, well, we have sugar-free options as well. As we were going by, she smiled. She goes, we settled on a sugar-free peach pie. It was gone. I asked my dad and he was like, oh yeah, he was in seventh heaven. It was really good. My mom liked the menu list too. It was very clean and very well kept."

"Sylvan House was close to where my mother used to live, so that is why she wanted to go there. The staff were very good. They had all kinds of activities there. They had movie nights and they also went on walks, played games, listened to music, and they had someone playing the piano in the evenings and stuff like that. The food was okay. She had a really nice room. They didn't have any transportation that took them places -- that would be my only complaint. "

"I am really happy with the attention my dad gets. The facility is really clean, the employees always seem very patient and kind to residents. And I am always informed in times when there are issues I need to address. Thank you!"

"We needed to place mom somewhere. We chose Alderwood for several different reasons. The admissions woman was exactly what my siblings and I needed. She wasn’t pushy and was also there to answer our questions before actually admitting mom. Mom’s room is perfect had just been painted before she arrived. Large enough for us to come visit and not be crowded. We have loved all the staff there taking care of mom. They all seem to truly care about their residents. Yes sometimes she has to wait after pushing her buzzer but they come as soon as they can and take care of business."

"My mother is very happy in Maplewood Gardens. They have very caring staff who has been really good at working with her. She has a small dog and they've been really great with that too. She feels like she's just at home. She also loves the food and you're always able to reach someone by phone. They've been good about keeping me informed about any issues she has and it's important to me that they're easy to contact. They were also the first to have an opening so we picked them."

"From the hospital, I was put to Merit Care AF and didn't realize that it was a place for people with dementia. I could talk to them, but it doesn't make sense most of the time. It was run by a bunch of Kenyan people and I couldn't talk with them either or communicate. The owner's name is Dan, and he would hire his relatives and some of them said they had no working experience. It was terrible. The food was just terrible, too. Dan had his relatives cook for them when they never cooked before. They had one fellow there that was real bad. We called him coach, he was an ex-coach in football, and he had really bad dementia, so at night he would get up and walk around and try to get outside. They would actually stack furniture in the front living room against the doors so he couldn't get out, and if there's a fire, we couldn't get out either. It was bad. It was kept clean, though. They were good at taking care of my apartment."

"Very clean environment, the residents seemed happy. The staff was very helpful and attentive, they'd call us within minutes of a resident needing help. The facility itself was really very nice. It looked more like a high end apartment complex than a retirement home. The resident's units were very nice. 2 or 3 bedrooms each, all very clean. The residents were allowed to have pets, which I think is helpful to the infirm. They had a very nice dining area, and a rec room with a big screen tv and plenty of activities. The residents are encouraged to interact with each other, and they seem to develop real friendships and relationships. Overall, it was the nicest facility I saw in Spokane. A lot of places just cram people into beds, and do the absolute minimum required by law. Rockwood seems to genuinely care about the happiness, welfare, and health of their residents. "

"Emilie Court was the assisted living facility that we visited. It was a relatively small facility. They were, however, very gracious and helpful to us. They were very good with providing us with information, etc. My aunt is a very devout Catholic and it is very important to her that the facility is accessible to a church. Fortunately, Emilie Court is right across the street from a Catholic Church, so she could go and hear daily mass there. Overall, I think it was a terrific facility, but we weren't sure that my aunt was really ready for an assisted living. "

"North Central care is an assisted living facility located in Spokane Washington. When I visited there, I was impressed by the professional demeanor of the employees as well as the apparent satisfaction of the patients. It became clear to me when I volunteered there that the patients were treated with respect and dignity, which they obviously deserved. I will always remember several of the patients there telling me how much the staff cared for them and how it made them feel during a hard time in their life. The facility itself is in the northern part of Spokane across the street from North Central high school. This is a relatively nice area with a low crime rate, and little traffic. The building which houses North Central Care is a state of the art assisted living facility, and the amenities provided to the patients are as well. I can honestly say that North Central Care is the best assisted living home I have ever seen. "

"I had visited Touchmark on South Hill four times. It was a beautiful facility but very expensive. A unit there would run up to $500,000. It had activities for the residents and licensed nursing facility as well as a wing for patients with Alzheimer's. "
