"We've seen different places, and the only one that's in our price range and where people were active doing something and awake participating was The Gardens at Brook Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care. They have a memory care facility that is a lockdown area, and I think that would be the best for my mom, but now we just have to wait for a room. There's a front area that looks almost like apartments, and couples can live there like married couples. The back part of it is where they have the memory care, and they only have like 24 beds. They specifically showed me a semi-private room over at the memory care facility. It was clean and smelled good. The rooms are roomy. The bathrooms are big, and they have a chair. I could see the plants that they planted in their little containers. I could see the rocks they painted. They have a Zen room where people can go and get their anxiety worked out. You could hear a background sound, sort of sound therapy, of waves rolling. It was very, very relaxing. I was very pleasantly surprised that the clients were all awake. They were not just lying on some couch with a blanket over them, sleeping. They were all actively participating. Julia was the one ho did the tour and showed me the room and everything. The activity director was a very nice, sweet lady. She had them all participating. I thought that impressed me a lot, how careful they were and how they spoke. They have the lockdown doors, so my mom cannot just walk out the door and disappear. They offered us lunch to try, but we didn't get to eat there. The semi-private room had plenty of room for two beds. What I liked also is that I get to take her furniture, like stuff that she knows, like her drawers, her night table, a chair, her little radio, whatever. I was happy about that, that we get to take something to still make her feel she's at home. Julia was very personable and kind, and understanding of our situation. She actually showed genuine care and concern, trying to find the best fit place for my mom, and she listened to us."

"We have already spoke with the Director, and we selected the Barcelona Assisted Living for my mom. We were given a very thorough tour. We were very pleased with what we found. The Director there is very, very professional and very accommodating for everything. She has been very good about having her phone line open for us to be able to access and keep her updated on what's going on. We have been very pleased. They offer mani-pedis and things like that. They also have outside visitors, such as musicians that come in and keep the place lively. They have a house doctor and a nurse practitioner assigned to that area."

"We toured Biltmore Assisted Living. The accommodations were great. They gave us a thorough tour. It was a very cozy site. You could tell it was a little bit on the older side compared to the other place. It was probably a little more affordable because they tend to have more semi-private rooms there. I wanted a private room. They had the same access to a doctor and a nurse practitioner. They had access to recreational visitors that come in, and they work with them whether it is music, some kind of painting activity, or things like that. One of the semi-private rooms they showed me was very cozy and very nice, but I noticed they did a patch job on one of the walls. I think it still needed a coat paint. Overall, it was good. It was a very cozy place."

"The Bridges at Edinburg Assisted Living Homes is a great facility. The reason why it didn't work for me is because it's not a lock-down facility, and there's a chance my husband could wander off. I'm impressed with the staff. It's a very nice facility with a very warm staff. I saw some people playing a board game, and the dining area was very nice. I saw a living room, and that's where they do music therapy. The rooms were very clean, very nice, and a good size."

"My mother is in Good Life and the people working there are very nice. They are very good and they take care of my mom very well. It is a small facility so it is more hands on. The cleanliness is also very good. She has a one-bedroom with a bathroom. It is very nice, and it accommodates her very well. She has a bed, a recliner, a dresser, a TV, a compact refrigerator, a microwave, and extra chairs. They have a nice little dining area right off the kitchen and it has a long dining table where they all congregate to eat. The food is good. It is fairly new and she is impressed with it. The citizens there go to adult day care, which is affiliated with Good Life where they have bingo, cards, other games and they also do crafts. "
