Locals and history buffs refer to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, as the Secret City, a nickname that refers to the area’s role in developing nuclear weapons during World War II. In addition to its significance as a tech center in the eastern part of the state, Oak Ridge is also a neighbor of one of the largest metro areas in the state, Knoxville. This bedroom community has a population of just 31,000, but 19% are seniors 65 and older, indicating that many retirees may find Oak Ridge a desirable location.
