"I've visited Sapphire at Firwood Gardens. The people were really friendly, the place was nice and clean, and the building itself was not rundown. The only thing I didn't like was that where my dad would have been there, he'd have to take an elevator and would have to go all the way outside to smoke. So that wasn't a fit for him. The staff seemed helpful, were nice about showing me around, and answered my questions. It seems like they offer a lot of things that the seniors would need. And they have a side that's memory care, so if they started at assisted living, they can transfer out to memory care, so I like that."

"I moved to CherryWood Village and started in their independent living community. I chose it for myself because it's close to my son. It also has everything that I could need. It has a theater, a chapel, a library, physical therapy, a pool, and even a little golf course. The food is excellent, and there's a wide variety of it available. The service and staff are excellent, too. Everybody is friendly, extremely kind, and helpful. I'm in physical therapy, and we have a pool, so I'm also doing water aerobics. Walking all around the area is delightful here, too. It's a safe environment, and it's very easy to walk around in."

"We were impressed with MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care of Happy Valley. I think that's my favorite for my mom. It was very clean, very bright, very open, and the people we encountered were extremely friendly. It felt like the residents had a lot of freedom as to obtaining meals when they wanted and what they wanted. The rooms that we saw were very spacious. We like the feel of it overall, and the location is really nice for us. The staff who gave us the tour was very knowledgeable. The studio was open and not staged, but we saw a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom that were staged, so you could see a layout of how furniture would fit and such, so that was helpful. They sent us home with a little pastry, which was nice. We'd like to take my mom out there and do a meal and a tour with her at some point in the near future. We saw the opportunity for residents to do everything from reading, and there's an opportunity to have your nails done and your hair done. They have a massage location, and somebody can come in and do massages. They also have games. They have an activities director. Lots of different activities and events were going on. It was also beautifully decorated for Christmas; it was very classy looking."

"We went to Trustwell Living at Kent Place. We liked that it was a smaller place and that it included everything that was needed. Everyone was very friendly and it was very clean. The staff was very informative and was able to answer all of our questions. Some of the amenities at Trustwell include transportation, a beauty salon, a craft room, laundry and housekeeping, and three meals."

"My disabled Mom had maggots and flies in her room, so needless to say the housekeeping is non existent. They find a way to blame the resident for all of the staff's shortcomings. "

"The people in Brookdale Fisher's Landing are absolutely wonderful. They're really flexible because when we first went there we didn't know what my father would need, and they're very good about keeping us informed as his needs change. I give them complete thumbs up for that. The studio unit is an ample-size, and there's enough room for him to get around in his wheelchair and he doesn't feel crowded at all. It's well-maintained and everything is very clean. The price is a little more than what we pay for at an adult care home, but the facilities are so much better than those at a care home. One thing they could improve on is providing a little more assistance to the family as far as moving the resident's belongings in. It's odd having to go through the lobby and private dining room when moving possessions, so maybe they can offer another way in to allow families to have access. Everybody seems happy with the meals there, there's always variety, and if the residents want something else they'll get it. The community itself is very nice, immaculate, and always smells good."

"We toured Trustwell Living at Evergreen Place. It's small, and they seem like they give pretty personal care. The staff was very good and very personable. They have a dining room. There's a game room where they can play stuff. They have a nice outdoor area. It wasn't fair because we missed the lunch, and they had to reheat it. So, it wasn't a real fair trial of it because it's been reheated. The food tastes good. The variety was good. We didn't get to eat at with the whole dining room or anything. It was a small facility, so the dining area wasn't huge. They're pet friendly. They have transportation. They checked all the boxes."

"The Courtyard at Mt.Tabor was very nice. I liked it because there was a lot of space. There were two memory care facilities there. I loved them both because there was a lot of room. Activity directors were there and working. It seemed like everybody was enjoying themselves, and they were happy, which was important to me. They looked like they were content and smiling, so they were comfortable. What I liked about this one are the colors, which were green. It looked very nice and was well-kept. I liked the way it was laid out so that the memory care patients couldn't get lost because they just went around a circle. I like the rooms. I like everything about it. Their staff was very attentive. They were all very friendly and had smiles on their faces. They seemed to be doing their job and liking it."

"L&s Adult Care Home has a new owner who runs the facility. Her name is Sarah and she was very good. The home was clean. It was old and it's a smaller home care for five adults and interestingly, it was a home for women. So for my mom, that would be fine, and I can understand where that also might be an advantage. The staff was very nice and very helpful with entertaining questions. It's a house that is run by a woman and her husband, and they are parents to one nine-month-old child and a two-year-old, and they live at the facility. So, if you're an older person and you enjoy being around kids and family, which seems to be quite pleasant, that would be awesome. You would have a built-in grandchild to interact with once in a while and nothing can help brighten our day sometimes, but having a little bit of time to maybe play together with the child. For those who don't want the occasional interruption of children or the inevitable times when the kids are tired and upset and need attention from their parents, it might create an environment where there's a little more competition for your caregivers' time. I don't think that overall, it's a negative, I think it's positive that they're a small little family, but it's the kind of thing that could be a risk and the one thing we know with kids growing up is that their needs continuously change. So, it might be something that could get better, because the kids are learning to live with older adults as well, or it may have times when it's not so optimal."

"What I liked best about Cogir at the Quarry was the caring people and there was a level of joy in everyone's life there and the work life of the people who are employed there. The thing that I like the least is that it is a bit like a maze of hallways. With my parents struggling with dementia, that's probably going to be their hardest transition, figuring out where in the world they are and where they're going. My husband has a good sense of direction and we went on the tour together. He was finding it a bit baffling. If a man with full cognitive and a sense of direction is a bit confused, just imagine how older parents who are already feeling the effects of dementia would be. On the flipside, there were plenty of workers around so you would not be lost for long. There were places to sit down along the way so you could find your way without undue stress. They did a nice job with the cleanliness. The atmosphere was positive and supportive. It was a big business so it was a very big building. The size of the room was sufficient."
