"I visited the Vista Harden Ranch. They're in the moderate level as far as pricing. As far as availability, though, they have a great facility. The only thing wrong with it is the amount of walking space. They don't have a lot of space for walking. The rest of the facility was very clean. I would live there. The people were hospitable and very nice. Vista Harden Ranch had my name, and they said, 'Welcome,' and all the rest were on a chalkboard as I came into the facility, so it was nice that way. They gave me a gift at the end when it was all over. Those are nice qualities for that, although this staff is more on the younger side as far as experience."

"I toured Twin Lakes Manor. It was just a small place, and I liked it. It was very clean. The residents looked cared for and content. The person who gave me the tour was very friendly and gave me a thorough tour. I liked the grounds. There's a great big back patio that's all enclosed, so it's very secure. Overall, I had a good impression. The staff would just smile as I walked by. I didn't see organized activities at the time, but I saw a woman getting her nails done. They don't have a bus taking people out to places. I believe it's licensed for 12, but they only had about 6 residents at the time. So, it's very quiet. It's just more of a residential house, but it's a quiet neighborhood on a dead-end street. So, it's secluded and safe."

"This is the best care and the best care givers in the Santa Cruz area!! The rooms for the most part are LARGE with lots of light with part of the the 14,000square foot facility newly remodled???????? the price can't be beat for the service and the love ! NO nickel and dining here!! As most places in this area do...... highly recommend this place .... "

"We visited here, and Mom will be moving in. We chose it for her because it has assisted living as well as the professional skill nursing function. The place has a very nice warm feeling to it and there is plenty of room. I talked to a resident who likes it very much. "

"Canterbury Woods is spectacular. This is the place to go. They could not take my friend, because he has memory issues. If your memory gets worse while you’re there, then that’s okay, but if you have memory issues to start with, they won’t take you in. But it is a great place, a beautiful place. They have good people, and they have all levels of care. They have a grand piano in this big room where they play music, and that was a really impressive place too. The facility is clean and pretty. It’s so nice for the residents to be able to go out in the garden and be with the flowers and the grass. The landscape is spectacular. "

"Carmelo Park is a smaller community, so they have an easier time providing one-on-one care with the residents who live there. They are activity-centered. I got to meet their activity coordinator and talked to her about it. My mom does not just have Alzheimer's. She is also blind and the coordinator is very mindful in making sure that the activities are inclusive, which can be challenging when not only do you have memory issues, but also other issues like my mom do. They have a lot of different types of activities. They are working on the families' need to see their loved ones more often, so they have been very on top of getting people vaccinated. I was able to take my mom on her first outing since we moved in there in March because of that. One of the biggest things I like about it is ever since my mom moved in there, she is looking good. Her health, her stamina, and how she looks very healthy. We are not allowed in the dining room yet, but I have seen it. It is very large and spacious. The facility is housed in an area with lots of trees, which is beautiful and peaceful. The food is great too. They have it set up where their biggest meals are in the morning and during lunch, then a lighter meal for supper. To me, it makes sense because it's better for the body and digestion. I talked to my mom about the kind of food that they eat, and she is very happy about it. The staff is very attentive to my mom It is very easy to talk to them about anything, and they listen to my ideas too."

"Merrill Gardens at Monterey was a nice place. It's new, but a little bit out of our price range. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. They also do assisted living. They have a salon and a pool, and rooms with washer and dryers inside. The dining area was nice, and the food was really good. They seemed very pleasant and eager to serve you."

"Ave Maria (St Francis Care Center) was recommended by several people. My mom has been a devout Catholic all her life and the fact that they have a chapel there and a mass everyday and that was very important, that is why we chose this place for her. She moved there on February 28th.This facility seemed like a very good fit for my mom. I have her in a small private room where she has a nice view looking out the window. Her room is nice. I found the staff to be very caring. They have an excellent activities director. She has a lot of love and care for the people there. At Ave Maria, they have the equipment to get my mom into a wheelchair. Also mom is participating with other residents there in activities and things. She just seems to be much happier and doing much better. She doesn't have any problem with the food. "

" The physical set-up of Flanders Court is simultaneously gracious, secure, and homey. The handsome garden and patio are integrated into the living area. Internally, residents have access to abundant natural light, eclectic tasteful furnishings, and bedrooms are personalized with a resident's own possessions. All of this helps support a sense of identity and orientation. I speak as a retired R.N. For all the positives mentioned above, the real treasure of Flanders Court as a resource for residents and those who love them is its care-giving staff. They were kind and helpful with me, drew my loved one out as an individual with a history and identity, and provided enrichments like scenic drives and conversation. I observed a wide range of physical and mental capability and needs accompanied by a wide range of support and independence available to residents. That speaks well for individualized care. The compassion and quality care I observed remain with me to this day. I am grateful for Flanders Court and appreciate this opportunity to share my experience. "
