About Nathan Adelson Hospice
Nathan Adelson Hospice was founded 34 years ago following the death of Nathan Adelson a beloved hospital administrator who cared deeply for his patients and employees. After a long painful battle with stomach cancer, Mr. Adelson's family and friends recognized the need for healthcare specific to pain management and compassionate end-of-life care. They founded Nathan Adelson Hospice to honor Mr. Adelson with a vision that no one in our community ends the journey of life alone, afraid, or in pain.
In 1983, we opened the country's third free-standing hospice on Swenson Street. In 1999, a second inpatient facility was opened in the Northwest and we now have 38 inpatient beds. In addition to our two inpatient facilities, we have a home care program that provides care to residents of Clark County, Pahrump and outlying frontier communities of Armargosa and Crystal.
In total, we care for over 400 patients a day. Hospice is a philosophy of care rather than a place and most of our patients are cared for at home, surrounded by the people and things that they love. In 2011, we cared for a total of 3,084 patients and supported their loved ones. Since inception, Nathan Adelson Hospice has cared for more than 50,000 patients regardless of ethnicity, gender, age, religion, disease, insurance status, or ability to pay.
The care for many of our patients has been possible through funds contributed to our Uncompensated Care Program. Uncompensated care allows Nathan Adelson Hospice to ensure everyone has access to dignified, compassionate end-of-life healthcare. Annually, we provide over $1 million of charity care to people in our community.
We have board certified physicians in hospice and palliative care on staff, on site pharmacies, a full range of complementary therapies, physician visits to patient homes and the only local comprehensive pediatric hospice program.
Our mission is to be the Hospice of choice, employer of preference, training center of excellence and the community's trusted partner for comprehensive end-of-life care.
