I thought I could do it all – take care of my mom (who had been diagnosed with early stages of Alzheimer’s) and also take care of my own home and kids. Although I was able to burn the candle at both ends for 11 months managing two households, it finally took its toll. It left me feeling exhausted and guilty for not spending enough time with everyone, let alone not having any time for myself. I finally realized I needed help, so I reached out to a few agencies in my area. The folks at Evergreen Home Companion really stood out because they listened to me. They scheduled an appointment for us the very next day in my mom’s home to talk about the options we had for care. They even helped me work with one of their partners to obtain Vet benefits that we didn’t even know we were eligible for to help pay for care. Mom’s caregiver has been so fantastic and caring! She takes care of all those things that I used to worry about and mom is so very happy, as well! Now I know she in good hands, and I get to spend real time with my mom instead of just doing the chores. I just wished I would have called sooner!
