We have had more than 5 caregivers in the 4 months. The agency need to understand the program and what they need to provide. They also need better staffing. I want them to improve on consistency of the caregivers.

She bathes him, if he needs something from the store she'll go with me to get it. She offers to do much more than what's expected of her. It's better now, but at first, we were getting different caregivers one after the other.

They were supposed to get medications for the evening and get her into bed. The caregiver could not do that. They need to know how to redirect a person who has a cognitive disability. When the caregiver was there, I had to be there to assist the caregiver and was unable to leave the client with her.

I am a very independent person and I try to do things myself. In doing so, I essentially do things that they do differently. Those things don't make for a very smooth situation. There are very few of those and essentially we have made it work out so we can live with each other in those very few items. The caregivers make me work and learn what I have to do. They don't let me just sit around and let them do it. They make me do it in order for me to make progress. There were some personal needs that I needed that I felt not to have given me by the people who were here. I like that they're very friendly, very thorough, and they make me do what I have to do.

We have hired Home Helpers Home Care for my mother and it seems to be working out so far. Besides companionship, they are helping her with showering, laundry, and cooking. They're cooking her whatever meal at the time of day that they are there. The weather's not been good here in Baltimore, but they have taken her out for a walk with her walker outside, so she gets out of her apartment. I know she did some ironing for her. I guess that would be considered laundry though. They have changed her bed when it's been soiled when they get there. They have helped her get dressed after showering. She has trouble with putting her socks and shoes on. We chose them because they have an office close to where my mom lives, so they were close for us if we needed contact. They provide the personal care, but they also can go into medical care if needed. That was something we looked at in case things got worse and she needed other kinds of help, like they would be able to do medications and things like that if that ever happens. Another reason we chose them is that the director or the president actually has a really good medical background. She does background checks and certifies all her employees with the CPR and whatever other medical assistant credentials they need. They do it yearly. They don't just do it at the beginning of hiring, so we like that. The caregiver is friendly, but she's not overbearing, and she seems quite adapted with everything she does. The way she speaks with my mother, my mother's difficult to get along with, and I know she tested her the first couple of days and now they've actually become friends. She looks forward to her coming. She wasn't one to trust anybody coming into our house and this young woman has gained her trust. She is rather young. I thought she would be older. She's just really good with her. She has a good outlook and demeanor and never short with her. She's very patient. Scheduling is fine. They accommodated us exactly how we wanted. The first week, we had a problem with doctors' appointments and they rearranged their normal schedule to accommodate our appointments. The payment is fine. They bill weekly and I do it online. I don't have to write a check or do anything like that. It's more than I expected, but I don't have anything to compare to say that it's excellent.

Can't say enough good things about this company. They treat their clients with respect and real care. I've never seen anyone on their phones or not giving the client their attention. It's the little touches that really put them over the top for us. This client is difficult to bathe and they handle it like champs. They even got her to eat today when the rest of us could not. They're #1 in my book!
