I’m using HomeCare.com. It’s fine. They’re very good and very responsive to any concerns I have, and they’ve provided me with a good health care aide, not great necessarily, but good. They also provide light housekeeping, they help me clean myself up, and they take me to my appointment. They get here within a certain time window between 7 and 7:30, and that’s when I need them here. A lot of times my communication is directly with the aides. If she can’t come on a certain day, the agency would contact me to see whether I need some assistance or need somebody to fill me in on a given day. I think I’m paying more than I probably should because they have a mandatory number of days that I can contract for, and that’s probably more than I usually need. To maintain the contract, I have to keep them on a certain number of days.

I have found Golden Heart to be a great blessing to our family. I was afraid that mom was not eating after dad"s death and she seemed do lonely. I hired a caregiver to come check on her make meals and just check up on her. Since I’m juggling work and family, I don’t have a lot of time. The caregiver is great they have baked a pie, watched tv, and the last I saw mom, she was laughing with the caregiver, while they were watching a show.

I also thought that they’re a smaller organization and could be more flexible. The caregivers seem to be nice people; they’re trying. We’ve just been getting started with them and our experience is likely to improve. Maybe the scheduling could be a little better.

Day to Day Homecare had supported my wife for over a year. In fact, she was there holding her hand when my wife passed away. I’d like to keep her online, so she continues to see me. She comes to the house five days a week. That’s how much I thought about them that I have kept her on.
The two caregivers that I was involved with from Day to Day were both outstanding. The one that was with my wife for almost a year, she kept my wife immaculate. Normally, when you go into a place where people are sick, you get a unique smell to that, but I never had that. She kept my wife clean and she took care of her like she was part of the family.
She is here Monday through Friday. She also calls me on the weekend just to make sure that I’m still alive and that I’m feeling OK. She makes sure that I take my medication, she takes care of getting my blood pressure and trimming my toenails, and she helps around the house so I don’t have to worry about cleaning and dusting. When I traveled, which is about four times a week, she watches the house while I’m gone.
She has been with me for about a year and a half now. She is really outstanding and she is like part of the family. She makes sure that everything is taken care of. I can’t say enough good things about them.

Financial Assistance for Home Care in Springboro, OH
Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
- Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-term care insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
- Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
- Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
- Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living. Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
- Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.
