Forest Park Village

I have been a resident in the independent living apartments. for a year now. I have been so impressed with the way everyone makes you feel at home and welcome. We are truly a family here, and the love and goodwill are fabulous. Having no family in Wausau, Forest Park Village makes me feel safe and among friends.

My mother will be moving into Forest Park Village. It is a very friendly facility. Everyone has been very helpful as far as making her welcome and making her feel that she's going to be a part of their community. The least I like is, as in a lot of other places, they are a little short-staffed. So, it's hard getting somebody to help out, but they're doing the best they can. My sister-in-law's mother is a resident there, and so that also is helping in getting my mom acclimated to knowing someone who's already there. I've been helped by Dana, and she's been very, very helpful. Her apartment is spacious. I believe they call it the promenade deck. With all the activities they have available for my mom, in the hope of knowing someone who;s already a resident there, I'm thinking this is going to be a great move for her.

I am living at Forest Park Village. It has three levels of care. It is a remodeled hospital. They have three separate buildings here. The one main hospital building is for senior retirement, where I am located. Then next door, there is assisted living. This is the convent where the nuns use to live, and it has been remodeled for assisted living, and that is very nice. Then, they built a separate building for Alzheimer's care. Some of those people we have coffee with in the morning because everybody goes down to the dining room and we have a good time. I have met a couple of fellows who live in the dementia or Alzheimer's facility, and they say they get very good care. In so far as the assisted living facility, which is a very beautiful facility, the cost involved for the assisted living and Alzheimer's facility is considerably higher. The staff here is excellent. For the active retirees, they have single bedroom and double bedroom apartments, which are very nice. The unit I have is between 700 to 800 square feet. It is a single bedroom. I have a full kitchen, a beautiful living room, laundry facilities, nice bathroom with shower, and a big bedroom with lots of closets. Actually, it is a very nice apartment. They have a large bus, and they take people shopping and what have you.
