Matthews of Irish Road

My mom's in a wheelchair, and when we got to Matthews of Irish Road, you couldn't push the button for the door to open. I had to manually open the doors and try to get my mom in. So, that was a hassle. Then nobody was there at the front desk to greet us. It did not smell nice. A girl came out and I said that we just actually stopped by because we're touring next door. So, we thought we'd stop here first and she's like, "Okay." She brought us into the rooms and they were so small. The carpets were super dirty. I went, "It smells funny in here." and she went, "Oh yeah, we have to replace the carpets." and that's not going to help. The halls were too small for the wheelchairs to even turn around the corner. It was a bad place. What we saw was a studio and then the other one was like a little apartment. You could not maneuver a wheelchair there. Somebody is going to have to have real mobility to walk around in there. It was super tiny and they turned corners real quick. They had a common area right when you walked in, but there was no outside courtyard or anything like that. There were chairs and tables for the meals and stuff and right there are couches, too. The lady was nice. She showed us around and everything that she was supposed to do. She was super nice but that's the only person I talked to.

Matthews of Irish Road is very nice. It has smaller units, spacious rooms, plenty of staff members, and they take very good care of my mother. They have an activity set up every day. They provide transportation to and from doctors' appointments and errand running. The staff is very good. I cannot say enough good things about them. They're on top of her meds, they are on top of her care, and they keep me informed. When I walk in the door they're right there to greet me on a first name basis. You get that feeling because it's a smaller community. She gets three meals a day, she has a laundry facility, there's a hairstylist that comes in once a week, and there's an RN on-staff 24 hours a day.

Matthews was a smaller one, but I guess as far as price difference, it would probably be the one that we would choose for my mom.
