We went to Where the Heart is Assisted Living and Memory Care. We looked at all sides of it. They have a good system and a good program. The facilities were excellent. The people were very nice and you could see that they were interested in doing a good job with the people they were working with. Just looking at it, I thought it was a lot newer than it was.

The facility deteriorated significantly in the year that our family member resided there in assisted living and memory care. Staffing was inadequate, poorly trained and new management was indifferent to our concerns. Medical supervision was nonexistent. The facility was dirty, and services that had been promised were never delivered, e.g. there was no driver for the community van for months on end; the activities were limited as the activities director was redirected to fill in for caregivers; and food was poor quality and preferences were not honored. Constant staff turnover meant that continuity in care was lacking. I would rate no zeros if I could. Avoid at all costs!

I had an in-person tour of Where the Heart is Assisted Living and Memory Care. I was sad that my mom couldn't go there. The staff members were excellent and very helpful. Even though I wasn't taking my mom there, I had a couple of questions I couldn't find answers to, and they told me I could call anytime. I called with questions, and they went out of their way to get the information for me. They had a library. One of the things that I liked about it is its setup. They have what they call cottages, but they're not cottages because they're not separate. But there would be a cluster of apartments around a central area, so there weren't long halls. It's only two stories, so if you didn't want to take the elevator, you could take the stairs reasonably. Some of the apartments had doors to the outside from the apartment, which was nice. Some of it was a little dated and needed some updating.

My mom moved into Where the Heart is Assisted Living and Memory Care a few days ago. We chose this place mostly because of the location. So that it'd be easy for us to visit her. The staff had been really helpful. They had an art class. They have a lot. We just moved her there. So, I don't know yet, but I know they had some art activities and exercises. I haven't tried it yet, but they have a salon, activity rooms, and just like gathering rooms. Everything looks really clean.

Mom lives in Where the Heart is Assisted Living and Memory Care. The real stand out there is the layout. It is very conducive to the resident's interaction. There are very few hallways, but large gathering spaces with outdoor patios on the first and second floors, beautiful gardens, a central meeting area, and smaller dining areas in every wing. They've had a pretty good staff. They've changed ownership and right now the problem has been staffing. It's really hard in the general Seattle area to keep staffing. The cost of living is high so they've had a lot of turnovers. Their activities are minimal. They have had trouble hiring an activities coordinator again. They don't have a special room for activities at this location, but one thing that's kind of unique in this place is every room opens up into a great area as opposed to a hallway. There are two wings. Each wing has two floors and each wing is separate. They have a dining area, a small kitchen, a gathering area, and an outdoor covered balcony or patio that people can congregate on, as well as some really pretty grounds that they can interact with.

Where The Heart Is had a pleasant atmosphere. The greeter was pleasant. It looked like their activities were well-planned. I did not care for the location by a railroad tracks and a road. It was too expensive but well kept and very clean. We saw the dining area, but we did not eat there. I thought their rate was too high for where it was located.

We really liked Where the Heart is -- we even had lunch there -- but the only room available is a studio and was out of our price range. The reason it was our first choice is we can covert to Medicaid after we exhaust her funds. This was by far the nicest facility.
