What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Our staff take monthly training courses and are updated on all policies and procedures that are available.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
We have a minimum of 2 care givers at any given time.
What programs or activities does Mercy House Waco offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Our residents love their weekly Bingo games. We do a lot of reminiscing and test your memory games. We play board games, bowling, Yahtzee, puzzle books and other miscellaneous games to keep them engaged. Our residents also love our dance off competition.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our nurse that is on staff assesses the residents' health and cognitive function on a daily basis. Their assessments are repeated on a monthly basis.
What techniques does Mercy House Waco use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Our staff follows each residents' meal plan. If a resident needs their food puree', we puree' each item and do not mix it together. We love to give our residents the feel of fine dining. We do assist residents' that can not feed themselves and assist them in every way that we can.
Is Mercy House Waco affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
We do have two hospitals in Waco. We do use whichever one the family members would like to use.
