I toured Avalon Memory Care - Lewisville, and the marketing director was fine. However, it's a bad impression walking in the door as old people just sitting in about 10 or 12 chairs in a horseshoe shape, not watching the television, just staring into space. I didn't see any activity calendar or locations where they could do physical or occupational therapy. I didn't see any recreational area. There wasn't much going on there other than a location for people to be. The rooms were nice, a typical 300 square feet with a television. There was a kitchen there. They provide food. There were tables where people could eat. Other than that, it was barebones.

My mom moved into Avalon Memory Care - Lewisville about a month ago. The biggest part was the negotiation, the pricing, and the caretaker. It's a new facility, so there are some growing pains, but they're very caring, very doting, and most importantly my mother likes it there. She's not easy to please, but they know how to make the residents feel good. The folks are very caring and very loving. It's very bright and cheery. Everything was colorful and bright. It made my mother feel that she's not going into a nursing home. It's a place that she could live, like her own home. I like the layout. They have outdoors. They have a little vegetable garden out there. They have a place where they can get their hair done. It's not huge. I think there's only like seven residents there. They need to do more activities.
