After looking at about six facilities I decided on the Retreat at Lady’s Island. This proved to be one the best decisions I have ever made. The Retreat is maintained impeccably, the food is exceptional and most of all the staff is amazing. My wife is treated like family. Honestly, this place exceeded my wildest expectations. Don’t think I’ve ever been associated with or have known an organization with so many pleasant and competent people who genuinely love their work. God’s work.

Do not bring your relatives and loved ones to this place. They neglect the seniors. My mother caught a UTI infection because they were not cleaning and bathing her properly. They overmedicate patients. They leave the senior's medications out in the open. They do not clean up her room like they say they do. They do not assist her with dressing, cleaning, or caring. This place is a ripoff, and no one cares about the patients there. They give excellent lip service, but they don't act on it. They don't change her sheets. We have hospice care for her; they are just as bad as the Retreat staff.

The Retreat at Lady's Island was a really good place. The people there were really caring. You can tell that the people who were living there really liked it, and they connected with them. They had a lot of events and stuff that they could do, which was really nice. Rachel gave us a tour of the place and she was amazing. She wanted to help us and accommodate us. She was doing everything right. They had a big patio with plants, and it overlooked a harbor, which was really pretty.

The Retreat at Lady's Island was a fairly new facility. It was a three-story facility. Each level had a lobby area for the residents, but the residents would have to go downstairs to eat. Their staff-to-resident ratio was pretty good. Besides it being large, nothing remarkable stood out to me. They had different levels of rooms from studios to 2-bedroom apartments. They were clean, well-equipped, and ADA- accessible. One nice thing was they have water views from the Marsh. This facility had a pretty good overall atmosphere. It was engaging. Activities were going on with the residents and the staff. The person who provided me with the tour was good and engaging. It was all-inclusive care. They had an in-house pharmacy, an in-house physical therapy, and a third-party connection with a doctor.

I wish I had known how much they can ignore your needs and concerns. In general, just about everything was bad. The food, the minimal needs of a human being, medicine, assistance in showering, everything they did was much less that adequate. If you care about your loved one, please look elsewhere.

My dad is going to move into The Retreat at Lady's Island, and we've chosen this place because of the perfect view of the Beaufort River and the boat dock. It's open, quiet, and airy. The staff was very friendly and informative. When I was there, they had a milk-and-honey hour, and then I saw a bunch of ladies downstairs enjoying themselves. They have a list of daily activities too.

Our 92 year old mother has experienced first hand neglect due to untrained personnel at the The Retreat located at Lady’s Island. Their staff members were unfamiliar with her medical needs or personalized care plan, and their sub-standard care resulted in an adverse effect to her physical and mental health at this nursing facility. I would give this facility a rating of 1 or less. If you care about your loved one, do not take them to the Retreat to live. If they live at the Retreat, I would move them out. A lot of residents, as well as staff and administrators have left this facility....for a reason.

The Retreat at Lady's Island is a very nice place, the building and all is nice. It's along a river, so the outside has a beautiful view and you see boats coming by occasionally. The people here are nice. The biggest complaint that the people here have is the food, and we're hoping that it will improve, but it hasn't happened yet. I have a two-bedroom and it's very nice. I have a little kitchenette with a small refrigerator and a microwave, the bedroom is separate with a private bathroom. There's a washing machine out in the hall, but right now it's broken, though there's another one further down the hall. The facilities are pretty nice. I would suggest that people come in and view it, which would help more than anything. Other than the food, there's nothing I can complain about. It has a much prettier view than most other places. I have a room in a corner and I look over the river and you can see across the river and the downtown view. It's quite a pleasant place. The staff is very nice, we just learned yesterday from the governor that we can have visitors in now, which is a nice statewide thing. When I got here there were quite a lot of things to do, but when the sickness went around they cut back on most everything. There was singing and music to games, a chapel where we have a service, and on Mondays we had bus rides.

Rooms are okay, no activities, docile in bed residents seemed to be the goal, over-medication was common in memory care resulting in falls and injuries. Staff not knowledgeable, trained or educated in dementia. Medications were lost and over-charging took place. Medication administration done by uneducated individuals. Do not recommend this facility. Unsafe.

The Retreat at Lady's Island was just one building, it's newer than the other places, and it was nice. The rooms were on the smaller side, but they had more amenities. They had several different floor plans and some of the rooms had a beautiful view, which looked out over the water. It was in a very nice location. It was a little tough to get to, but when you get there, you could see the bay. They had different clubs, card games, bingo night, arts and crafts, and they would take people to town to the grocery stores or Wal-Mart. They would help you out if you needed to go somewhere.
