Assisted Living Communities in Hilton Head, SC

"I like the spaciousness of Canterfield of Bluffton, the room sizes, and the facilities overall. It's not a hundred percent, but it's pretty close. The staff is very knowledgeable. We saw multiple rooms, one-bedroom, two-bedrooms, and then there are apartments. The rooms were adequate, the two-bedrooms were larger with some options, the suites are perfect, but you don't get the home care; it's not included. When it comes to activities, they have everything from playing cards, music, arts and crafts, and they take them on tours."

"We visited Summer Breeze Senior Living. My friend liked the location. The church that she belongs to is just a few blocks away from it. She likes the fact that it's down here on Wilmington Island, so that's her main thing. We've had several people that have stayed there, and they really liked it there. My friend said that seemed to be the place for her. The group that I belong to does Bible studies there once a week. We go to each one of the different rooms and visit with all the different residents there. We really liked it. We were very impressed with it. We had some of our members who stayed there, and my friend was acquainted with all of them. It's been real, real good for her. It's where she really wants to move to. It's a wonderful place, bright, and airy. All of the employees are very friendly and accommodating to their residents. They have all kind of social things they do that are just wonderful for the residents. They have groups come to sing with them outside when the weather permits. They put on little concerts for the people to come see. They play bingo. They have arts and crafts. They have a hairdresser, and you can get your hair done. They take you wherever you need to go. They take them to the mall and different places. The food is wonderful. I've had several meals over there with members of our church that had been staying there. All of our members liked it. It's just a well-rounded good place. You get a good feeling when you walk in there like your own. I never heard anybody complain about it other than price wise, but then everybody complains about prices. I can't fault that. My only problem is you have to bring your own furniture. They don't have furnished rooms unless you're in the hospital side of it or the full care side. They were very accommodating. Any time we went there, they would go help us gather people up and bring them down to the social room for our Bible studies and sing-alongs. It's just a very, very nice, pleasant place. The amenities far outweigh what little extra you pay. The community is great. You're close to a lot of the churches here. Most of these women like to attend their churches or church services. Just down here on the island itself, which is where Summer Breeze is, we've got about 8 or 10 different denominational churches. They'll go pick them up and take them to church, and then bring them back. It's a great place in a great neighborhood. We don't have to worry. They keep the doors locked at night, but there's always someone right out there in front at a desk to see who's coming in and who's going out. They make sure they sign them out and that kind of thing. It's a very safe place. I feel great about my friend being there, if she's able to get in there. The staff is all over the place taking care of their residents. If the residents in their rooms need something, they can call; one of the workers will be right there. You don't have to wait. They are very accommodating. I had lunch with one of the church members there one day, and it was very well seasoned and very good. They've got their main facility, which is where my friend would be (which is assisted living). There's also a memory care and an area where they have to have round-the-clock nurses. They've got cottages all around. If you're able, you can live in one of the cottages there. Those are people who can take care of themselves pretty much or just getting up in age. They're really good."

"We toured Harmony at Savannah. It was a great place. It would have been my first choice, but they don't have any staff to do tube feeding. The people that guided us through took a lot of notes about my husband, and they tried their best to work something out so he could be approved to go in there, but it's Georgia State regulations. We saw a room for the memory care and they were very nice. They have lots of activities."

"The staff was very professional, took a lot of time to talk to me and took me on a tour. They had meeting rooms, activity rooms, music, piano, get-togethers, live entertainment, game room, and a place for happy hour. The memory care facilities got their own wing there. It was clean, but a little bit of an older facility."

"My mother's room was clean and the food looked great, but the most amazing part of Life Care was the skilled help of the occupational therapist and the physical therapist who helped my mom get so much stronger and back on her feet after, a CHF episode. The facility is across the street from the hospital which was comforting to my mother. She is now ready to return to her apartment thanks to the staff at Life Care. If she needs skilled care again, this would be my first choice and my mother is picky!"

"My family lived at The Bayshore, and had a great experience as an Independent resident until we moved out of state for a new job, and they chose to follow us to be close by to grand's. We found the staff to be very accommodating, and attentive and patient to my dad who was extremely hard of hearing. We always loved coming over for Sunday brunch and hanging out on the dock afterwards, such a dream. If you are looking for a retirement community for yourself or your loved one, be sure to check them out, you will not be disappointed."

"I entered this cozy establishment to hear the cheers of residents playing "Pirates Booty Bingo". The staff were all engaged in the fun, and dressed as authentic pirates. We were greeted warmly, and invited to join in. The Administrator who was also dressed, bent down to look directly into the eyes of those in wheelchairs. The atmosphere was clean, and inviting. We passed the library to hear the soft coos of Diamond Doves, who I later found out were named "Chi Chi" and "Tyler" by the residents. The halls were easy to navigate, and I especially liked the fact that I didn't see people (both staff and residents), just sitting around in them. All in all, I was very pleased. "

"Sprenger Health Care of Port Royal is beautiful like a cruise ship. It has a beautiful community room with very high ceilings and a grand piano. It has a club bar. They have happy hour every day and it probably seats 15 people at the bar. It's a place where they get together every day. They have an outdoor wood-burning fireplace with seating; they have a firepit there. There are one-bedrooms with a patio. It's very nice and new. It's only two years old. The staff who assisted us were very personable. They offer Milkshake Monday and they have mimosas after chapel service. I know someone who lives there. My friend's mom is there, and she said the food is very good. Nobody is starving in that place. They have options for each meal. Everybody doesn't eat the same thing."

"I would go and have lunch on Saturdays with my friend at River Oaks Residential Care. They would accommodate me with something different if it wasn't something that I could eat. I did like the food. The place is always clean and they do have activities for the residents. However, they need to monitor their weekend and evening staff. That's all I would suggest. One weekend, I went out and read to my friend, and the staff just sat around watching TV. The nightshift is not as nearly as good, too. When you put a patient in bed it doesn't mean the patient will not have a need. "

"Sprenger Health Care Bluffton is very clean, bright, and welcoming. The facility has a lot of amenities. They have a very nice therapy room as well as a little bar and eating area. They have cocktails at three. My brother-in-law says the food is very good so he seems to be very happy there and all of the staff is very accommodating. Everyone has a single room. They don't have to share with anyone. There's a refrigerator, a television, a lot of storage for his clothing, and a bathroom and showers that are wheelchair-accessible. Everything is clean. They even washed his clothes. They have wide halls enough for people to walk as well as those with wheelchairs. They have several sitting areas where families can gather. They give a weekly sheet of activities. The girl that we worked with, the director of admissions, worked hard to help us get all the necessary paperwork done to her so that he could be accepted."

"The Retreat at Lady's Island was just one building, it's newer than the other places, and it was nice. The rooms were on the smaller side, but they had more amenities. They had several different floor plans and some of the rooms had a beautiful view, which looked out over the water. It was in a very nice location. It was a little tough to get to, but when you get there, you could see the bay. They had different clubs, card games, bingo night, arts and crafts, and they would take people to town to the grocery stores or Wal-Mart. They would help you out if you needed to go somewhere."

"I liked Buckingham South very much, and it's my first choice here in Savannah. They're very accommodating, and the rooms and apartments were nice, but the facility needs to be freshened up since it was a little outdated and shabby. I think the care was very good and I liked the staff, but the food wasn't very good."

"The place is spotless! The staff are friendly and caring. They are responsive to a residents needs. They plan special meals for Holidays. They invite speakers to talk about Medicare, Medicaid, insurance and other subjects. The grounds are beautiful. I don't live there but would be happy to live there if the need arises. "

"The least I liked about Sunabella Senior Living is they have two separate buildings, one for memory care, and one for assisted living, and they do a little bit more in one building, so if the residents don't go to the other building they might miss something, Overall, I think it's a very beautiful location in Savannah. The facility was clean. The room sizes were nice. The staff was wonderful, showing me the different rooms and the sizes, and how they could walk outside in a garden. It was very spacious. The residents have nice places to sit and places to walk inside and outside. I've met a couple of the staff members, as well as the management who showed me around. They were very nice and very informative. They had a studio bedroom and one bedroom. The rooms were great and had a very nice layout."
