The Best Assisted Living Communities in Beaufort County, SC

"My mother moved in. We like it because it's a good place. We chose it because of the whole feel of the place. It is very nice. It looks like they care for the people and they are concerned about the people. They're just very attentive. They do well with activities. They do bingo, they exercise a little bit, and they have entertainment - people coming for music and all. The whole place is great. There's a salon, but in memory care, there's nothing you're going to use."

"My mother is currently a resident of The Palmettos of Bluffton. The food is very good, they have activities although my mom hasn't joined in a lot yet. They play bingo for quarters, have happy hour every day and there's usually somebody singing or doing something. They have a bus that takes the residents on little trips, and they also have crafts. The staff seems to be very good. Like in other places, there's always an issue, but it gets resolved. The dining area is very good and they have a menu that you can choose from. You have to go to the dining room to eat unless you're sick. You can put what you want in the apartment, like your own furniture. I visited several senior communities, but this was the one we're comfortable with."

"When my dad moved into the Summer Breeze assisted living community a year ago we knew that he would have to face a lot of changes. However the staff was able to make this transition much easier for both our father and family. The caregivers work hard to try and give him the time and attention he needs yet they do not take away the independence that he cherishes. The facility provides him with 3 meals each day as well as snacks. Since he has diabetes there are some restrictions on his diet, but he has been very happy with the taste and quality of the food. We have been invited to try some of the meals and while we find some of the dishes a little bland, overall we think the food is above average. We are impressed with the fast response time from the staff when our father has asked for personal assistance. Our father says that he rarely has to wait more than a few minutes before a staff member arrives to answer his call. At the present time Dad only needs someone to help with housekeeping and transportation duties. When he needs to get to the doctor's office for an appointment there is a staff member that can assist him. Housekeepers come and take care of the routine cleaning duties, and if he needs extra assistance with something all he has to do is ask. "

"We toured. The design wasn't appealing to me or my wife, because when you walk in, the welcome center or whatever you want to call it, the cafeteria, the eating area is right there. That just seemed kind of odd that it was right up front. When you walk in, you have a little seating area, two chairs, a lamp, and on the corner an end table with a TV and refrigerator. You go around the corner, and you have your bed. The staff was just learning. He was new."

"I toured The Oaks at Savannah, and it was very nice. It was clean. They had medium rooms and larger rooms. The staff who gave me the tour was very nice. When I entered the lobby, they had beautiful chairs and people just sitting out there, doing puzzles or on their phones. I only saw one room, but it was small. They were located near restaurants, groceries, and Skidaway Island."

"My cousin lives in Harmony at Savannah. The apartments are very well-appointed and very spacious. There are elevators that are close by to accommodate those with mobility problems (my cousin has a mobility problem, she's on a walker). The place is very attractive. The staff that I had met were very nice and accommodating. One thing I don't like about the place is that their parking lot is not friendly to the residents. People with cars have to park way out at the far end, whereas donors who pay and help support Harmony at Savannah get to park way right up front and they're generally not people with mobility problems. So I think that's a fault. They have two handicapped spots and they're taken up by people that are visiting, not people that live there. Outside of that, the facility is well-run and has services available. It is excellent. The activities look like they're available on a regular basis and part of it requires that you make some friends and have people to do things within the facility. They also have movies, speakers, games, and lots of rooms dedicated to different board games and meetings. I've looked at other places and I think that it's a fair price she's paying there."

"The least I liked about Sunabella Senior Living is they have two separate buildings, one for memory care, and one for assisted living, and they do a little bit more in one building, so if the residents don't go to the other building they might miss something, Overall, I think it's a very beautiful location in Savannah. The facility was clean. The room sizes were nice. The staff was wonderful, showing me the different rooms and the sizes, and how they could walk outside in a garden. It was very spacious. The residents have nice places to sit and places to walk inside and outside. I've met a couple of the staff members, as well as the management who showed me around. They were very nice and very informative. They had a studio bedroom and one bedroom. The rooms were great and had a very nice layout."

"We toured Savannah Square and the location is good for our family. They have nice facilities, and they do lots of activities. We would like the little cottage that they have. We liked the fact that they have progressive care there. The staff was very knowledgeable and very nice. Of course, there was COVID, so there was a lot she could not show us because it was kind of shut down, but she was very friendly. They also have pools."

"The Thrive at Skidaway was nice. I got to do the tour of the community and they gave me their brochure. They had independent living, assisted living and memory care and I did a quick tour of all of them. It's very nice because it's new too. I don't have any complaints about it."

"Oaks at Pooler was nice but more expensive than other communities. The staff member was very nice and very informative. She talked to us about all the amenities and the services they offered. They had different types of rooms. I saw where residents put together crossword puzzles and their dining area. However, I think everybody was taking a nap at that time."

"When making the decision to safely house ones parents for their retirement, the choices and decisions can be daunting and even, sometimes, intimidating. All of our concerns were alleviated when we met the extraordinary team at The Bayshore on Hilton Head Island, SC. There is not an aspect of living your senior years in comfort and style, with a terrific staff, that has not been considered and implemented. Our interview was informative and showed a level of kindness not found elsewhere in our efforts to secure an appropriate care facility for Mom. The building is solidly constructed and beautifully furnished. The nursing staff is the best I've ever encountered anywhere. The activities are plentiful and reflect a nod to a more active lifestyle, not the conventional games put forth elsewhere. The pool is glorious, the setting, so picturesque that my contemporaries, upon entering The Bayshore, want to live there! From greetings by the charming front desk staff, to the aids, nurses, restaurant staff, maintenance staff and cleaning crew, it is a spectacular home for Mom. And also note that the in house PT option is amazing. Do not hesitate, in fact RUN, to The Bayshore and take advantage of what could well be the best retirement community in the Country. "

I was very happy with it, and so was my mom. They have a library, a beauty salon, a craft area maybe, and the dining room."

They had meeting rooms, activity rooms, music, piano, get-togethers, live entertainment, game room, and a place for happy hour. The memory care facilities got their own wing there. It was clean, but a little bit of an older facility."
