My mom really loves her place at Helena Square. She enjoys the mingling, the games and the fact that she is close to everything. The staff are friendly and attentive. I would recommend Helena Square to anyone looking to move into assisted living.

My 90year old mom is happily adjusting to community living at Helena Square. When she broke her leg this past May, and after spending some time in rehab, it seemed the right thing for her to transition to a place where she could receive good care near family and friends. Mom enjoys having 3 tasty meals a day prepared for her and staff nearby on call 24/7 should a need arise for help. Other residents are friendly and helpful. It was a good choice for Mom.

This small community impressed me. There is a friendly atmosphere among the residents. As soon as I walked in the door, I was welcomed by several staff, the executive director, and the full-time nurse. The community felt like home to me. Some of the staff have been there for 8, 9, 10 years, and they provide 24 hour care. A nurse told me the facility partners with physical therapists, physicians, and a pharmacy to ensure residents are well-cared for. Having found the perfect place for my mother, we look forward to her moving to the Beaufort area soon!

I went to Helena Square. It was a good tour. It's a different kind of facility. It is much smaller. They don't have as many rooms. I liked the facility. They don't have any on-site physical therapy or occupational therapy at all. So, from that standpoint, I wouldn't rate it as highly for its capabilities. I like the feel of Helena Square. It seemed very cozy, and the people were very friendly. They were having a little musical event while I was there, and nearly all the residents were in the common area listening to music, and everybody seemed to be having a good time. So, that was very nice. From a cleanliness standpoint, it was good. I liked the look of the rooms, but from what I thought I would be looking for my in-laws, it wasn't going to fill the needs for what their needs might be. There's a small microwave and refrigerator, just like a kitchenette. Maria was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and very open. She did an excellent job.

I toured Helena Square. The staff was very nice and helpful. The facility was very clean and well taken care of. The size of the rooms was decent, but the one I looked at was too small. It's a one-bedroom studio, but it's not available.

I really like Helena Square. I thought the people were nice. The place was nice, too. We met with pretty much all the staff and we felt very comfortable with the place. It just seems like a good place, and that they would be able to take care of my dad. There was a little refrigerator in the apartment. The staff member who showed us the place was very knowledgeable and very informative. She had talked to the caregiver out of my dad's current place, so she knew about him. She took the time, and she followed up with me. She introduced me to the nurse and to the director.

My brother-in-law stayed at Helena Square for 47 hours only. He had a studio apartment. They provide three meals a day. They have television. They've got reading areas. They have puzzles and a piano. They have different activities they do together, and they also have trips. Because he's mobile and can go out -- there was a walking trail nearby, a nature trail near the water. He could go down to the river. It's a little like a beach community near the river. It was near the naval hospital with the VA clinic, which is what he needed.

It was a much older facility. Everything was clean and maintained. I think it could be an advantage that it was a smaller community. They only had around 30 residents. I did see the menu, and it was a healthy and balanced menu. Their calendar of activities was pretty full and on the incremented schedule. Even though they were a smaller facility, they were engaged. They had Ice Cream Mondays, Wine Down Wednesdays, and they had happy hours. They had a salon area and an area for physical therapy.

It was a very cozy, friendly, and comfortable facility. The staff was very informative. He gave me a very thorough tour of the facility. I found it also to be very clean there. The few clients that I happened to see in the lobby area seemed very happy with the facility also. The dining area was very clean. It seems like a very nice social place also. They have an activities director. They have various craft classes, bingo, a social hour, exercise classes, and they have somebody that does gardening. There's a variety of things that they offer.
