My brother-in-law stayed at Helena Square for 47 hours only. He had a studio apartment. They provide three meals a day. They have television. They've got reading areas. They have puzzles and a piano. They have different activities they do together, and they also have trips. Because he's mobile and can go out -- there was a walking trail nearby, a nature trail near the water. He could go down to the river. It's a little like a beach community near the river. It was near the naval hospital with the VA clinic, which is what he needed.

I really like Helena Square. I thought the people were nice. The place was nice, too. We met with pretty much all the staff and we felt very comfortable with the place. It just seems like a good place, and that they would be able to take care of my dad. There was a little refrigerator in the apartment. The staff member who showed us the place was very knowledgeable and very informative. She had talked to the caregiver out of my dad's current place, so she knew about him. She took the time, and she followed up with me. She introduced me to the nurse and to the director.

It was a much older facility. Everything was clean and maintained. I think it could be an advantage that it was a smaller community. They only had around 30 residents. I did see the menu, and it was a healthy and balanced menu. Their calendar of activities was pretty full and on the incremented schedule. Even though they were a smaller facility, they were engaged. They had Ice Cream Mondays, Wine Down Wednesdays, and they had happy hours. They had a salon area and an area for physical therapy.

It was a very cozy, friendly, and comfortable facility. The staff was very informative. He gave me a very thorough tour of the facility. I found it also to be very clean there. The few clients that I happened to see in the lobby area seemed very happy with the facility also. The dining area was very clean. It seems like a very nice social place also. They have an activities director. They have various craft classes, bingo, a social hour, exercise classes, and they have somebody that does gardening. There's a variety of things that they offer.
