ALZ Description

This is Memory Care reimagined. This is The Courtyard Memory Care at Tockwotton on the Waterfront. As an assisted living residence specializing in care for those with Alzheimers disease and other forms of memory loss, The Courtyard provides a safe and nurturing environment where highly trained caregivers focus on what is meaningful to each resident. Priority one is getting to know the resident and their family. Understanding your loved oneappreciating their likes and dislikes and knowing how best to maintain their well-being and peace of mindallows us to create experiences that will foster positive emotions throughout their day.

The cognitive changes brought on by memory loss can cause a great deal of anxiety or stress. Something quite familiar can suddenly feel unfamiliar. That is why our surroundings have been designed to feel just like home. Residents reside in private studio apartments. We encourage families to fill the space with the residents favorite possessions or pictures. Built in a circular fashion, The Courtyard minimizes opportunities for confusion and agitation, while enhancing a sense of stability and calm. Central to life here is our beautifully landscaped and enclosed courtyard with an herb and cutting garden. Most of the apartments feature either courtyard or waterfront views.

The safety and contentment of each resident is a full time commitment at The Courtyard. The team approach of our highly trained staff ensures 24-hour care is consistent and compassionate. To that end, our commitment to care does not stop with the resident. We hold a special place in our hearts for family members struggling to understand the intricacies of Alzheimers disease and other memory impairments.

I visited this facility

Tockwotton on the Waterfront has a wonderful location, and beautiful buildings, and the staff was very nice there. The thing I didn't like there was that it was double the price of every other place I saw. The place itself was great. I only met the staff member who gave the tour. They have everything you could want there or nearby. They had a workout room, a library, a theater room, they didn't have a set chapel so they just use the main meeting room for not only art and music but they also use that for the masses. It's a very clean place.

I visited this facility

I toured the assisted living and skilled nursing at Tockwotton on the Waterfront. They've got everything anybody could want. At $6000 a month just for the assisted living, they better be, and that's still not the final number. If you want them to do your laundry, it's above and beyond that. I'm more concerned about my brother and him starting to lose his memory at 78 years old and that place would move him from assisted living to memory care, but like all places, he has to be evaluated by the proper people. He's going to a hospital to be evaluated within a short period of time. They have libraries and theaters. I was a little disappointed in their eating arrangements. Their dining room is "restaurant-style" where you sit at individual tables and the food is brought to you. It's not a buffet, and the menu was posted at the door. It doesn't look like a regular fancy dining room that I would expect for the $6000 a month. It's a nice place. There's no doubt about it. The staff is friendly, the people are nice, and the place is clean. I've got nothing negative to say except my disappointment with the dining area. I just thought it would have been a regular dining area like I had seen at "fancier places." It was like individual tables for four. They almost looked like cod tables versus plush seating and stuff to that effect. Other than that, it was OK. They had two full rooms, a kitchen, a separate bedroom, and a full bath. The bath doesn't have a tub. It has a stand-up shower that's handicap-accessible. The place is only built-in 2013, so it's updated in decor just looking outside.

We were very impressed with Tockwotton on the Waterfront. All the people there were very professional and informative, the setting was awesome and the facility itself was just beautiful. The staff went over the activities and amenities like if my friend needed a ride they would be there. We were impressed with the amenities and physical look of the place; it was like luxury living. The ratio of caretakers to residents, and the availability of medical people, it was just all around I was impressed with.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was in short term rehab after suffering a broken pelvis/sacrum. the MORNING after she was admitted, i walk into her room to find her sitting in the chair, screaming for help. she had not been mobile since her fall a week before. I was told 'she wanted to get up' by a staff member. LATER i was told she did NOT receive pain meds as they "lost the KEY" to the narcotic cabinet. I also learned later that many people in this facility hire THEIR OWN personal CNAs to care for them while in this 'beautiful' setting. DONT let the appearance fool you, they are grossly incompetent and dont care about their patients.

Our parents went into the nursing side when they were ill and the staff doctor totally changed their medications which they had been taking for years for their cholesterol and high blood pressure. My dad's legs ballooned out and mom became manic and stopped eating altogether. I thought that because our parents were not Jewish, they were not treated well by the doctor. I think that they didn't care if our parents lived or died. They did die...within a couple of weeks...mom, first, and, dad, 6 weeks later. Horrible. The staff were kind, but, the doctor was terrible, barely saw our parents, and let them go downhill fast without a care. I regret ever bringing them to Tockwotten.

Tockwotton on the Waterfront is a lovely community. I wish they would have been a little more personable, like they showed us where the cafe was and said we could go in and get coffee if we wanted. They showed us where the rooms were. It's a really nice place, and you can see how a person's day would unfold if they lived there. We didn't see a lot of the place because the senior that I was with wasn't able to walk around. Surprisingly they didn't offer a wheelchair so we could bring her to more areas; that would have been nice. So we were very limited in what we saw. We got to see one room, and it was near the laundry room and near the elevator, so she didn't have to go too far. It was like a studio room and it seemed quite nice. There's a good-sized bathroom, and it was nice and clean. It just wasn't ready for someone to move into, but it was a perfectly acceptable room. This place was actually what my aunt chose, and she would have loved to go there out of all the other places we saw. She was thrilled with Tockwotton. Unfortunately, she didn't have any money to live there for three years independently. The lady that showed us the rooms was lovely, so I would rate the staff a five. Nothing was offered to us in terms of food.

You provided me, as well as my family members and friends, information and counseling that enabled us to navigate "these difficult waters". It has been a long and sad journey for me. What kept me going, however, were the kindnesses shown by the caregivers i met and the staff. There were times when we laughed and joked together and it was a joy to watch glimpses of the fun loving person i knew come forth to make us laugh. Indeed, it is tragic to watch as the memories of and Alzheimer's resident gradually disappear. What I am hoping to always remember is the special-ness of Tockwotton, and the very special people who live there or work there.

Thank you all for taking such amazing care of my Mother. I am grateful that the last few weeks of her life were spent in a warm, loving environment where she got the care that she so desperately needed. I am also thankful for all the support you not only gave my mother but you gave me. Tockwotton, and in particular the Russell Household, is a special place with special people. My family appreciates all you did for us.

One of the toughest things a family has to do is help finding a perfect assisted living home for a parent who can no longer live independently. After months of interviews and disappointed tours. My mother and I found a perfect match with Tockwotton home. We were already attracted to the location and newly renovated building seeing how I would have to commute from Boston to visit. Once we sat with Carrie in admissions, and explained the care we would need she assured us that this was a perfect fit for my mother. They have higher care facilities for dementia and other things we will need down the road. Instead of dealing with the hassle of continuing to move and find a new home, Tockwotton has everything we have to offer. Also, after the move in date, Carrie followed up with us to see how we were adjusting and I thought that was going above and beyond any nursing home we have dealt with! 5 stars all the way!!

I cannot begin to express how happy I have been with every aspect of Tockwotton on the Waterfront. I would highly recommend this care provider without hesitation. In addition to being a beautiful facility and wonderful location, the Staff goes above and beyond to make a family environment for your loved ones.

I chose Tockwotton on the Waterfront for my 90 year old mother with dementia after online research and visiting over 20 facilities in Northern Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts. The facilities are impressive and they offer a full continuum of care - assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation, and nursing home. This was so important to me as I couldn't imagine having to repeat this process as her care needs change. The daily activities and special events are above and beyond what I was able to provide. Thanks to Tockwotton she is happy, thriving and engaged in all that they offer.

I have been a resident here at Tockwotton for two years and I am very happy I made the decision to come here. The staff here is absolutely the best. Our executive director and assistants, office staff, nursing, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance and activities all help to make our home happy and safe. Our rooms are cleaned and beds changed weekly. Repairs are done immediately. Dietary serves us delicious meals of our choice. Activities are fun and many times our staff join right in with us as when we had our senior olympics the first week in August. We have concerts and shows in-house as well as attending them outside. Colt State Park picnic will be coming up as well as a trip to a casino this month. Every day is full of many activities that we may choose to do. Crafts, art, music, games of all kinds, crosswords, trivia, floral design, reiki, bell choir, tai chi, chair chi, and movies. We have speakers come in for spiritual, educational and health lectures. Wednesday evenings we exchange good night lights with the children from Hasbro Children's Hospital. As you can see our days are full with many interesting things to do and wonderful people here to share our good times with. Claudette Moniz

I had the pleasure of working with Carrie in the admissions team. She was kind, soft and took her time to listen to my needs. We toured, I had lunch with some of the residents and was able to meet with the staff. I was quiet impressed with the warm nature from everyone I met. I am currently a resident now at Tockwotton and am so pleased with my decision. They ALL have become my family!

if all that mattered were the beautiful window treatments and light fixtures, this would be the place. however, i've spent quite some time there in the last 10 days with my mother and i have to say i am afraid to go home at night and leave her alone. The nurses have been okay but the quality of the cnas is terrible. my mother has been left for hours, with no call button because they "forget " to put it back in her reach (broken hip and leg, bedridden) They are terribly rough with moving her- she is unbearable pain- and one CNA had the nerve to complain about her own bad back. Classless to say the least. My mother also heard them calling her derogatory names in the hallway . Terribly disappointed. wish i had done more research. Please don't be foo]ed by the private rooms and the building, the care is not on the same level . Not even close

Tockwotton home is a very deceiving place, it is absolutely beautiful on the oitside as wwll as in, but once you realize what goes on in the inside and how understaffed u will see it all. There is never a nurse when needed or always on the other side. Know respect for there workers which makes the workers miserable and unappreciated

I am a friend or relative of resident

I am a daughter of someone who recently stayed at Tockwotton after a knee replacement. My mother didn't stay long, but I hope this review will help others who are evaluating facilities. Overall, I would say the facility looks great on the outside, but it is rather thin on the quality of care. The biggest issue is there is not enough help. Luckily my mother didn't need a lot of help but it would make me think twice for future needs. I believe there were only 2 aides for the entire floor. When I was there and my mother needed assistance to go to the bathroom after surgery, the aid never came 3 out of 4 times. There is no intercom or central switch board, so how do they know if it is an emergency or not? I would suggest to management they figure out a way to measure this proactively because at this point, there is no feedback loop to measure if patients calls are getting answered or not. My mother called once when she was in the bathroom and it wasn't an emergency, but they didn't come for 1/2 hour. The aids are the kitchen help so that makes it very difficult during meal time when they are delivering meals, but also doing dishes and helping people in their rooms. I heard people crying from their rooms asking for help while I was there which didn't make me feel good. The rooms are very nice and spacious. The facility is new and seemed very clean. The rehab staff was fantastic and gave my mother great support and a lot of dedicated time 7 days/week. I was impressed with that. I also had an issue with the Doctor on staff who is only there for a short period of time but was not reachable by the nursing staff and had not okayed a course of treatment with my mother's surgeon. I had to escalate and it was not easy to get someone to help. I think if the person doesn't need medical help or help in general it is a good place. The staff were all very nice to my mother but the management needs to increase the quality of care.
