I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad was at Kinkora Pythian Home for rehab. It was a good experience considering the time that we were in and the shortage of staff. We don't have any real complaints other than when you go to a rehab center that's also a nursing home, the rehab is good, but then they put you in a wheelchair for the rest of the day. It's not really rehab to my expectations, because you're there to get your balance and to be walking more than sitting in a wheelchair the rest of the day, and this does not facilitate that. However, he's doing very well. The people there were amazing. They were one of the most caring and loving staff I've been around in a long time. The first night my father was there, he was having major tremors. They called and they were very concerned about it, and asked if we would maybe consider coming down and being with him. Before we even got there, the 3:00 to 11:00 nurse called me personally on her way home because she was so concerned about my father and what he was going through. To me, you don't find too many people that do that kind of thing, and I was very impressed with that. My dad had no complaints about the food, and lots of times he said it was good. They could do a little better with fresh fruits, though. Activities could have been a little bit more, but of course, they are just now opening up out of COVID. So, you can't just judge it on the way things used to be. They haven't gotten back their volunteer programs yet. They played bingo twice a day. At one point, they did Halloween hats. They had a couple of COVID cases while we were there, so activities perhaps weren't as it should be. The building itself was very clean. You would not smell that urine kind of smell when you walk down the hall. I was impressed when I would go in because my dad's bed was always neatly made. They have personal covers for each resident, so it's not just a white bedspread. They all had warm blankets on their bed. I was impressed with that. The social worker was exceptional. She was very helpful in any way possible. The financial person was the same. It was really a good experience. I would say it was a better experience than I expected.

My Mother has been in the personal care wing at Kinkora since 2019. We are over the top pleased with her care and. Attitude toward life and how much she has improved since entering the facility. They have been able to ween off some very heavy pain medication that had created in her a very negative outlook and personality. Now, at 99, she is alert, mobile - with a walker, so pleasant to spend time with, very active as covid restrictions have allowed, and POSITIVE?!! The wrap around porch of the mansion has stunning river views, her room is sunny, pleasant and much larger than those at other area facilities we viewed. She was able to take her own furniture which were able to set up like her home. The cost is extremely competitive and the staff is great - knows us all and interacts with Mom well. Thank you, Kinkora.

My father is in Kinkora Pythian Home. The reason I chose it is because it's a mile from my house. He's in full nursing care, and I'm not a fan. The food seemed fine. He won't participate in activities. I know they have an activities room and I see people in it, but he refuses to go in it. As far as money goes, from what I'm seeing, it is average with every other one. It's small but it's beautiful. The room looked like a hospital room. It's in the country. They have a pavilion, they have an octagon shaped thing, they have outside areas where if I wanted to take my dad outside, I could, and walk him around the facility. Because it's rural, the setting is absolutely beautiful. The staff is very interactive. I hadn't seen my father in a month and he was really bad. His whole personality had changed. He's angry and belligerent, but they are very good to him, whether it's the aides or the nurses. I can't say enough about how they've been with him. He has been a challenge for them. It's not a very big facility. They're adapting to him and he is adapting to them.

I visited this facility

We didn’t like Kinkora Phythian Home. It wasn't clean, and no one was there to greet us when we got there. It felt like a nursing home rather than retirement home living. I didn’t feel good about the whole visit.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My father was there for a little over a month, was suffering from some dementia and recovering from a surgery. The nursing staff was really good. But the aids where not. In the time he was there he may have had one bath and only got shaved if I did it. The food always smelled good, but he needed help to eat and usually didn't get any. His clothing was often missing and someone elses was in his closet. But, the kicker is he had 2 $3, 000.00 ea hearing aides lost/stolen. With very little concern from anyone, just like it wasn't important. No offer to replace them was ever made. It's not like it was his favorite shirt, he can't function if he can't hear. At least they didn't loose his dentures like hsh did!

Kinkora Pythian Home is small, but we are very happy with the staff and how they take care of the residents. Everything else is very good.
