I admitted my husband to Brookdale Gardens at Westlake because it was assisted living, and they had nursing care, so I figured that it met my husband's needs. However, over the period of a year, the services there deteriorated due to the employment of nursing agencies where the nurse did not know the patient, the patient didn't know the nurse, and neither one was identified with badges. The assistant didn't even know how the TV worked; it would be movie night, so patients missed out on movies. Their activities would change without notifying the residents. There was a lack of consistency in the help. The food looked very healthy and well-planned, but it was always cold. There was a long wait to put in your order and a long wait to get your food. The staff was in the kitchen and nobody was out in the dining room. They yell across the room to each other. It was not a comfortable eating experience. They have a place for people who smoke outdoors. They were out there in the wintertime without shelter, and they were at the top of an incline, and there were people in wheelchairs. There was no attendant. I felt that was very dangerous.
