"My husband is in rehab at Retama Manor Nursing Center/Harlingen. He recovered there twice from bouts with pneumonia after we chose it. They have just been outstanding with the rehab department. The nursing staff members are really quick to answer. They'll do anything to make you happy. If you don't like the meal, they'll go back and bring another meal. So, we've had a wonderful experience. He's in a double room, but he's been by himself the whole time that he's been there. They are really careful and try to keep them by themselves, because they kind of prefer privacy. It's a large room that has two beds, two TVs, a closet, a dresser, and double bed tables. They do have activities, but my husband is not one to participate. I know they have bingo, movies on their big TV screen, and tables for them to play cards or do whatever they want to do. Most of their food is good. The layout is spread out in every direction. It kind of gives you less noise. It's pretty quiet. It's not high, but it's way out of our pocket range."

"We had a good experience at La Hacienda. My mother is physically totally dependent on others for her care, even though her mind is still sharp. She was at La Hacienda for rehab & then stayed for several months. She was very well cared for, & she sometimes said, "I love this place." If there was something we wanted modified, the administrators listened & tried hard to accommodate. The staff is welcoming, helpful & friendly, even when they are busy. Mom liked and participated in most of the many activities, especially the music, crafts, holiday celebrations, religious events. She liked to chat with the staff, & they were so nice in return. It's an older facility, and the rooms are typical hospital/nursing home-style, but they're big enough for what my mom needed, and she was not in her room most of the time anyway. Food was pretty good but if mom wanted something other than what was being served, she would just ask for the alternative & the staff would bring it for her. "

"I really liked the Golden Palms Retirement Center and Healthcare. I enjoyed it. I had an excellent lunch. The rooms were really big and had really nice, big closets. It’s very well-kept,beautiful, and clean. They had arts and crafts, games, a lot of activities, and nice scenery around."

"My husband stayed at the Harlingen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Everything was great. They would be taking good care of him. I would go on my days off, or if I had a vacation I would be there every day. The staff was pretty good. They had to do paperwork for the insurance. The facility was fine. You could see as soon as you go in that everything was clean. Everything was in place. They have pretty good activities. They had a calendar and they had things they would be doing each day. The only one that he did was once a week they had like a grooming salon. Somebody would go over there and then he would have a haircut or a shave."
