SMP Health has three different physical therapies a day walking, cognitive, and speech. When my mom got in there, she couldn't get up much at all and needed help all the time. And now she is able to get around and dress herself pretty good. The facility is very clean. In fact, every time I go in there, somebody is either shampooing or vacuuming. And my mom is in an area that was remodeled and it's a private room and it's very nice. It's more like an apartment. My mom is eating supper right now. It's Tater Tot hotdish, and she seems to like it. I think it's probably a couple of meals a week that she doesn't really care for the food. Sometimes she has to have something for her to microwave. You got two options, but you don't always get the option you might have wanted. But when she likes it, she likes it a lot. Overall, it's pretty good. For activities, my mother doesn't always get involved, but she doesn't really know about it a lot of times. It is on a chart, so it's kind of up to my sister, my brother, or myself to let her know about some of that stuff. On Fridays, somebody comes in and plays live music, and so my brother brought her down for that.

My mom was a resident of SMP Health - St. Catherine South. It needs updates, it was very old. The rooms were just plain, so we had to bring in decorations and do it all ourselves to make it more homey. The staff was very kind, very polite, and caring, and always greeted her with a smile and never made her feel bad that she couldn't do something. The staff was highly dedicated. My mom was fed well, they took great care of her. I guess the only thing that we had a little hard time with because she's kind of hard of hearing, some of their accents were a little hard to hear plus with the mask. So, we didn't know sometimes what they were trying to say to us, but they were wonderful people. We just had a hard time communicating in some cases, but that's not all of them, just some. There were a lot more that was fine. Other than that, my mom pretty much stayed in her room because of COVID stuff going around the place. It was nice because it was all locked facilities. You had to sign in and sign out. They were doing some renovations to another part of the building which looked nice. Their community room was nice, their lunchroom was nice, and their entrance was okay. They had a nice physical therapy area for her. They seemed expensive, but I don't know the going rates of what things are. I saw a patio, but my mom was never out there. They did have people to do hair and nails coming on at certain days. They took my mom to appointments, so they had van usage. They had a church, games, and recreational times and each day they had something going on. If you were able to, you'd always find something to do during the day. It looked like a great program. It's just my mom didn't take part in any of that kind of stuff.
