We toured Elderwood Village at Ticonderoga. The tour was set up very easily. We went in and we did our COVID screening and our COVID tests. It was very clean. It was a smaller facility, which I know my mother would like. She doesn't like a bunch of crowds and too many people, so that was good. Everybody was very friendly. When we took my mother for her assessment, they were very kind, gentle, and welcoming. They gave her the information that she needed and tried to reassure her because she is moving out of the town that she has spent most of her life in. She's excited but a little nervous at the same time, and they did very well at putting her at ease. The unit is a small room because it has a private bath and shower. My mother wanted that, so that's what we got. They are going to provide her with a nice comfortable bed. She'll be able to bring a couple of pieces of furniture that she likes, and she'll have people keeping track of her medication and administering that for her. The dining room was very pleasant. There are not a lot of people. There are probably at this point eight residents, and they only take 13 and Mom will be the ninth. Everyone was very welcoming, and she met everybody. She said she liked it very much because it was bright, there were lots of windows, and the area has some really pretty views outside of the Green Mountains. Everything seemed very, very nice and very thorough. They have a nice gathering room for people to either watch the movies, work on puzzles, read, or just socialize. It's all winter right now, but they have an outdoor courtyard that's very well shaded with some nice furniture. The chef there will do barbecues out there in the spring, summer, and fall. They have raised garden beds for people to garden, and they can grow flowers and vegetables there. They have a nice area to walk around and to get together with other people that live there. What's nice is the pharmacy is right downstairs. My mother will have some transportation perhaps to go to a local dentist or something like that. When she does have her hip replacement surgery, the rehabilitation place is just below her in the same building, so that'll be an easy transition there for her, too. It's a 5 because of their pleasantness with my mother and they're answering questions and what-not. They were very interactive and very pleasant. They even introduced her to the kitchen staff, the cleaning staff, and the laundry staff, and they were all very pleasant and welcoming as well. We didn't have a meal there, but the people that were in the dining room area, we kind of peeked in, and the food on their plates looked very nice. They will cook to order what my mother can eat, so they follow certain dietary needs and stuff. The food they were eating for lunch looked very good.
