My family member was there for rehab last year. The entire place smells of urine. When staff were rung, there wasn’t an answer for more than a half hour, so I had to walk around to find someone. There were two nurse aides to each side of the facility, and each side has 60 patients—repeat—2 aides to 60 patients!!! The two that helped her to the bathroom were very nice, but that staff/patient ratio is UNACCEPTABLE! There is one RN to each side, but most of their night is taken distributing meds. I had to call shortly after and spoke to a supervisor with questions on whether my family member got her diabetic meds or not. I will say that the supervisor was very helpful, put me on hold, and immediately checked on the situation and got me an answer. The staff seem professional and pleasant, but there’s not nearly enough of them to take care of every patient. That’s probably why the whole place smells of urine. I told a family member/nurse that I know about what happened, and she said, “Unfortunately, it’s like that at all of them.” It’s so sad!

I felt very bad for the staff, and far worse for the helpless residents. I do believe the staff is doing the very best they could with extremely limited resources, limited supplies, and mention was made of apathetic management by both the nursing and housekeeping staff to me. I couldn’t get my dad out of there fast enough, and now, thankfully, he is in a beautiful private facility in a different state, where I know he will get the care and consideration our elderly deserve.. The food appeared healthful and well prepared, however, it was bland. I expressed my concerns to the administrator, but did not feel it was well received, so we have just chosen to move on and find a place that is a bit nicer… It was an emergency placement, it did the job for the time he was there, but things are much better for us here in Indiana. I feel so badly for the residents at the Betsy Ross facility that do not have choices, or don’t have family to look after them. I encourage the owners of this facility to step up and run it as if it were their own parents there, I’m sure they can do better.

Upon entering the main building I noticed a strong musty smell. There must be a leaky roof somewhere. The laminated floors look a bit warped - perhaps from mopping. This facility does not provide TV's for people to watch- you must supply your own - Seriously? The rooms are small for a shared room barely able to move around, especially once a wheel chair and walker are in the room. and there is black coax wire running along the baseboard and along the walls. They take 2 days to "approve" your IPad or electronic devices, remember no TV's - WTH? The Staff appear to be nice enough although my relative did not get his meds at night when he should have. I waiting to hear how PT goes as that is the reason we are there. This place is VERY dated.

The staff were always very friendly to family. There were some hit and miss employees who weren't always positive and caring to the staff. However, in the case of an emergent situation, the staff were always on point and knew what they were doing. The amenities were always nice. The facility had an activities room and a beautiful dining room for residents to dine, as well as a patio. The special needs unit was block from access for the safety of the majority of the residents but the unit itself was very quiet and calming for residents who had mental disorders.
