"My parents moved to The New Burton Homestead. We're still trying to get them settled because they were still downsizing from their apartment, but overall, they're very happy with the people and the facility. Most of the rooms are just a single room, but my parents pay for a double. They just have a place for a bed across from one end, a bathroom in the middle, and a recliner. I mean, it's more like just a room separated by a bathroom, no cabinets or cupboards or anything. At one end, they have a small closet, and at the other end, they have a small closet. They pay one price, which is quite a bit for two people. It's a different price than what was on the website. The prices have gone up, but they can use a washer and dryer and not have to pay extra because they're already paying a pretty high price. The staff was wonderful. They said they played bingo. My parents haven't talked about any activities. We think it's reasonable compared to all the other places we checked into that were more expensive."

"My mom was a resident of Valley Residential Services. They had their actual apartments. They couldn't cook in their room, so all they had was a microwave. They didn't have full kitchens but they did have a sink if they did dishes and stuff like that. They could eat in their rooms but they offer a dining room where they are served like you're in the restaurant every day. It was clean. They had people if you couldn't clean your apartments. They come in and clean up for you and check up on you. They took care of your stuff for you. We used to have dinners there like on the holidays, they let everybody come in. If I wanted to have breakfast or lunch, they had a fee of $5 and you could eat with them. It's like home cooking. You order off the menu and get what you want. They had everything. They have wonderful people that keep them busy with a lot of things."

"The Mohawk Homestead was very homey, but you had to share in some of their rooms, like the showers and the bedrooms. The rooms were tiny and you couldn't really put anything in it except a TV. There's also a stairway so it wasn't a good fit for my friend. They had an activity room and a porch where you could sit outside though."

"NOT AT ALL a nice place. If possible, I'd give it a "zero". My 45 y/o sister, who has mental and physical health issues, has lived there for about a month and she hates it. The food is mostly soup/sandwiches, hotdogs, canned fruit, lots of white bread--just the cheapest low-end stuff. Though some of the staff are friendly, most are rude and condescending toward the residents (my sister has witnessed staff yelling at the other clients). Since my sister has been there, they have made two or three medication errors--one in which they gave her the wrong dosage, one in which they just plain omitted some of her meds from her container when she came for a weekend visit with me. She also states that they fail to address her diabetes issues, both diet and med-wise. And here's the kicker: I sent my sister a $25.00 check for her birthday and one of the staff (the manager, Louann) tried to keep $10.00 for herself, stating to my sister, "You don't need any more cigarettes..." (or whatever it was that she wanted to buy). After confronting this particular staff, she finally relented and gave the money back. I have to wonder: if this is the way they treated my sister, how do they treat the elderly people with no family to help them and no voice to speak for themselves? Terrible. Avoid!!"

"Cedarbrook Village, Incorporated is nicer than the other place. It was nice, but they didn't have an opening. My sister would thrive there. She was familiar with this place, which is how we got onto that in the first place. Plus, it is in the community that she knows. We just thought Cedarbrook Village was better. The staff members were very, very helpful. It looked beautiful, well-kept, and clean. It looked perfect."
